Chandler claims two unbeaten centuries in 22 hours
Friday at 6pm and Saturday at 1.45pm were the starting points for two undefeated centuries by in-form Cresselly opening bat Adam Chandler in less than 24 hours.
He scored a six off the final ball of Cresselly’s 22 overs in the Harrison-Allen at Pill Parks against Llangwm to help his side to the semi-finals and then scored 107 not out against Neyland in a winning draw at home to Neyland, an innings which included nine fours and four sixes.
Could anyone have achieved this amazing double hundred, both unbeaten, before in Pembrokeshire? I doubt it!

Chandler helps McDermott-Jenkins achieve another landmark score

Centuries are rare in local limited-overs matches but pundits were left scratching their heads as whether two ‘tons’ had been achieved before by one team as Chandler was beaten to three figures at Pill parks by fellow opener Brad McDermott-Jenkins,, who lashed ten fours and six sixes in his 103 before he was caught by Sean Waller of Chris Thomas.

Momentous hitting at Glebelands

There was some momentous hitting at Glebelands as Lawrenny amassed a huge 233 for 7 and at tea must have felt they were going to get at least a draw against Johnston but were hit by the combined whirlwind called Steve Mills and Lee Summons as the home side strolled to victory in only 31 overs as Summons finished things off in style with his second six in 69 not out. Mills smashed 94 of his 126 not out in boundaries and credit must also be given to the work on the Glebelands’ ground by his father, Steve Mills (senior), which allows 472 runs to be scored in only 78 overs!

Smashing time at Oatfield Park

Steve Mills was also involved in some big hitting at Oatfield Park in midweek – but as the victim when colleague Mikey Jones lashed a Burton bowler over the boundary rope with such force that it smashed straight through a car window. Steve was standing on the pavilion steps cheering the shot – until he realised it was his windscreen that was ruined – and we daren’t repeat his comments then!

Josh does well for Stackpole

Someone who is making a name for himself as a talented young batsman is Josh Davies, who scored 121 as Stackpole rattled up 252 for 2 in a big win over Pembroke Dock, whilst Sam Kurtz followed his unbeaten century the previous week with 65 for Crymych.

Max makes big runs for Haverfordwest
Max Rodriguez was another century maker with 136 as they scored a huge 282 for 3 against Narberth 2nds in Division four – but spare a thought for Chris Phillips, who scored 94 and seemed set for a maiden century but gave a catch at the wrong time.
Darrell collects best bowling figures
Not many bowlers did well but Stackpole 2nds pace man Darrell Willington grabbed superb figures of 7 for 6 to help his side beat their counterparts from Pembroke Dock. It was a good day for the pensioners because Peter Hall, who has scored the most centuries ever in the county, top scored for Kilgetty Firsts in Division Two with 51, and Vernon Beynon claimed four wickets for Crymych 2nds – and none of them used their bus passes to get themselves home!

International cricket for Cresselly stars
Two Cresselly cricketers from the extremes of the age spectrum deserved a special mention this week.
Firstly,
Tom Murphy played in a two day match for Wales U17s against Cheshire at Elsworth Cricket Club and did really well as a fast bowler, taking 2 for 18 in his nine overs in the first innigs and 3 for 34 in the second innings.
Tom helped Wales to a ten-wicket win and has more Welsh games in the pipe-line. Well done young feller!
Equal;y as praiseworthy is the fact that
Richard Harris completed his 50th internation with the Welsh vets and as usual played really well. In his younger days Richard represented the full Welsh team and is still flying the Pembrokeshire cricketing flag with real distinction. So well done old-timer!
