Today on PembrokeshireSport.co.uk we continue our ‘thank you’ tributes to those ladies and gentlemen who help us provide our comprehensive cricket coverage as scorers, who not only love their cricket, but spend all Saturday afternoons in a score box and have to focus carefully on making sure that they have the scores recorded properly.
 
Our threesome today starts off with a smashing lady from Whitland Cricket Club and then moves to two of the three men who do the job, starting with the ‘elder statesman’ at Neyland then out to the cricket-mad village of Lawrenny, whose scorer is also renowned for his loyalty and willingness to take on any role in the club’s cause.
 
Ann-Marie Jenkins is certainly a long-serving scorer at Hendy Gwyn, having taken over the reins a decade ago when another great club servant in Janice Webb left.
 
Like so many others in the first division Ann-Marie’s scorebook looks a picture and with the range of colours she uses is able to provide lots of specific detail for post-match study by the eager players.
 
She is also one of those tech-minded scorers who is really comfortable using the ‘Play Cricket’ app and is as patient as anyone in the county in providing details, even when the play is going on in front of her, from this particular old hack.
 
She is rightly held in high esteem by all the other scorers for her cricketing knowledge and Whitland CC are indeed lucky to have a lady of her calibre so involved!

John Laugharne is regarded as the doyen of scorers in the county and he has an amazing haul of medals in the Harrison-Allen Bowl and Duggie Morris Cup, not only for his meritorious long -service as a scorer but also as a player in his much younger days with Neyland CC.
 
He has also scored whenever Neyland have made long journeys to compete so well in the National Indoor League Finals, right up to those heady days when they reached Lord's.
 
Known to all as ‘Laugharnie’ he was also scorer for the county team for some time and is rightly held in high regard by players across the county.
 
He is also popular with some of us who see him on a regular basis because of the fact that wife Jennie keeps him well supplied with his box of assorted sweets to share with us during play!
 
When he finally decides to pack up his pens he will be sorely missed by all at Neyland - and by me as well!

Our third fantastic scorer today is Malcolm Thomas, whose long-service with Lawrenny CC is amazing - because he was club treasurer for over 35 years and has been a groundsman for even longer.
 
He has even joined his old pal, Chris Williams in painting the clubhouse and changing rooms - and many other jobs besides.
 
Malcolm is unusual in the fact that there are no ‘flashy coloured pens’ for him because he prefers to use a pencil - but his work is just as accurate and he is another who calmly reels off details for us reporters, even in tense moments like at the recent Harrison-Allen Bowl Final, where he was delighted to see his beloved Lawrenny win the bowl for the second time!
