Sutton and Miller achieve top spots

As usual at the end of each cricket season, Paul and Janice Webb research the statistics for batting and bowling in Division One of the Pembroke County Cricket League, sponsored by Thomas Carroll Group PLC, with Dan Sutton (Johnston) easily scoring the most runs and Andrew Miller (Neyland) claiming the most wickets.
The Webbs have done a wonderful job, particularly so this season because Paul has been chairman of the Pembroke County Cricket Club and captain of one of the Welsh Veterans’ teams.
Sutton smashes runs galore . . .
On the batting front, Sutton smashed no fewer than five of the 13 centuries scored in the top echelon, his tally of 936 runs easily dominating the batting stakes ahead of Cresselly’s Iwan Izzard (618, including two ‘tons’) and Lee Summons (Johnston (532).
As well as the figures below, they also provide details of best averages and there is no doubt that the most remarkable statistic comes from Dan Cherry, the former Glamorgan run-maker now back at Cresselly and playing whenever his work at the Swalec Stadium, Cardiff, allowed.
Dan batted six times and was 18
th in the total runs scored column but with four not outs in his 312 total his average was a thumping 159.5!

. . . And Miller makes batsmen struggle!
Neyland veteran Andrew Miller has previously won the best batsman award but as he’s moved down the order has increased his value as a canny slow bowler to claim 37 wickets, just one ahead of Carew’s pace man Tom Davies and three in front of another spinner in Dan Flynn (St Ishmaels).
But with best averages as a consideration the table looks different because Whitland skipper Iestyn Scourfield’s runs per wicket stood at a creditable 10.23, marginally ahead of talented young Carew fast bowler Shaun Whitfield, with 10.46 and Haverfordwest’s Simon Holliday (11.08), who were 8
th, 7
th and 11
th respectively in the ‘Most Wickets’ list!
Fewer all-rounders but ‘Jammer’ battles on for Johnston
![Richard James Richard James](http://user.w3dynamics.co.uk/filemanager/Images/26/FullSize_Richard James.JPG)
There were fewer all-rounders than in other seasons as only Simon Holliday and Carew’s Rhys Davies featured in both the batting and bowling tables. Holliday ended up with third in the bowling in terms of averages and eighth in the batting, whilst Davies was 10
th in the batting and 14
th in the bowling.
And finally, a word of praise for Johnston’s veteran bowler Richard James, who is now close to 60 but still played with the enthusiasm of a much younger man at Glebelands as he grabbed 21 wickets in 12 matches – so well done ‘Jammer’ but watch those dodgy knees!
And well done also to Paul and Janice for their yeoman work respectively as player and scorer – and Paul for doing a good job as county club chairman too!
