Neyland Cricket's Junior Section celebrate a wonderful season
Neyland Junior Cricket – Girl's Team
This year saw the inauguration of an U13's Girls' Team at Neyland Cricket Club. Twenty girls trained regularly on a Friday night when weather permitted under the coaching eye of Jackie Williams and management of Jenny Seaton. They played two matches against Haverfordwest & Narberth and won both. Although matches and training were severely affected by weather, this did not dampen the girls' spirits, nor enthusiasm, despite the fact that cricket was a new sport to some of them.

Neyland Junior Cricket – U9's Season
The U9's Kwik Cricket was a stop-start sort of a season, with the weather giving the coaches a headache during the so-called Pembrokeshire summer. Festivals were held at Neyland, Saundersfoot and CressellyThe team did really well, with wins over Carew, Cresselly and even tied matches at one festival. Hundleton were the thorn in Neyland's side, but the team battled well. Thanks go to all parents for the travelling they undertake for training and competitions and to the children who took part. All the team were presented with an award for participation.

Neyland Junior Cricket – U11's Season
The U11's pairs cricket saw wins over Carew, Saundersfoot, Bosherston & Stackpole & Hundleton. It was looking good for the team, then unfortunately luck was not on our side and Cresselly & Narberth put a stop to what would have been a fine year. Again, rain played a big part for most of the training sessions, but all fixtures were completed. Thanks again go to the parents and children for their commitment over the past three years.

Neyland Junior Cricket - U13's Season
Neyland U13's managed to complete their fixtures this season with wins in the league against Pembroke Dock, Llechryd, Burton, Crymych, and Llanrhian with their only defeat suffered at the hands of Hook, early in the season. These results meant that Neyland were winners of their zone and qualified for the County Final.
The team had a strong batting line-up with Philip Llewellyn, Niall Hooper, Geraint Rees, Thomas Hughes and George Evans all reaching the magic 30 runs and having to retire. Another good batting performance was from 10 year old William Hughes who scored 23 not out against Llechryd. The bowling also had strength and depth, with the wickets being shared out amongst all the bowlers. Harry Nicholas took the honours with eight wickets during the season with Philip Llewellyn, Geraint Rees and Ewan Griffiths taking five wickets each.
The last match of the season was the County Final against Kilgetty at Cresselly. Despite a spirited performance they were comfortably beaten by strong opponents. However, most of the side will be available for the U13s again next season and they hope to be challenging for honours once more.
Eight of the side have represented Pembrokeshire at their age group and Philip Llewellyn and Olivia James have both represented Wales. William Hughes and Geraint Rees have also been nominated to attend Welsh trials for their respective age groups during the winter months.

Neyland Junior Cricket – U15's Section
The Under 15's had a successful year winning all four league games against Burton, Cresselly, Haverfordwest & Narberth.
Winning the four matches meant that Neyland deserved the title of Pembroke County Cricket Club U15's County champions – a great achievement considering that all bar two players are still eligible to play next season. It was great to see even younger players performing well next to the 'older ones' with Geraint Rees U12's and brothers Jack and Harry Nicholas (U11's) doing well. Continuing his good form with the seniors Alex Codd batted consistently for Neyland as well as the County U14's, aided by skipper Scott Jones, a Welsh International who earlier in the season celebrated his maiden century for Pembrokeshire U14s hitting 126* against Mid Glamorgan. Thomas Pritchard and George Williams also showed why they are names to look out for in the future, often opening the bowling well together and representing the County at U14's level.
Three players stood out during the whole season each receiving a coach's award. Charlie French excelled in his middle order batting slot, powerfully scoring quick runs consistently toward the end of the innings and also contributed with his bowling. James Davies settled in well and will certainly be an asset in future with his quick bowling and ability to hit the ball hard. Sam Laugharne again showed a promising year, making his first team debut, playing regularly for the seconds and also achieved his top score for the U17s against Stackpole in the first round. The squad members who each received a winners trophy were: Harry Nicolas, Jack Nicholas, George Evans, Philip Llewellyn, Geraint Rees, Alex Codd, James Davies, Charlie French, Sam Laugharne, Taylor Mighall, Adam Parr, Thomas Pritchard, Nathan Sutton, George Williams, Thomas Preece and Scott Jones.
The coach (Sean Hannon) thanked numerous helpers for their assistance throughout the season including Yvonne Jones for scoring the book, Rob Bellerby for preparing the ground and Lyn Rees for his help on match days.

Welsh Representation for Neyland Junior Cricket Club
Following in her family's footsteps, Olivia James began to play cricket from a young age at Neyland and represented her club for Pembrokeshire girls cricket. Whilst playing for the County, she was seen by the under 11's Welsh cricket coach and was asked to attend trials. After completing her trials, she was chosen for the Welsh under 11's team.
Olivia's first match was against Shropshire where she took 5 wickets off 3 overs which was the most a Welsh player had taken in a girl's game for under 11's. For that achievement, Olivia was presented with the match ball and also went onto play in a tournament in Malvern against her first international team, Gibraltar, with Wales winning both matches.
Scott Jones completed yet another successful year for Wales U14's. For the second consecutive year, Scott finished his season with as the leading wicket taker at a remarkable economy rate of 2.79 runs – an outstanding statistic for a leg spin bowler, considering the standard of batting he was bowling against. The team finished top of their group, an aggregate result from games played over the past two years, resulting in playing teams such as Hampshire and Yorkshire next season.
