Men's Indoor Cricket - Division Two - Week Two
Herbrandston (111 for 3) beat Pembs Seniors B (72 for 6) by 39 runs
Herbrandston showed what a useful side they could be in this section once they gain a little more experience, scoring a healthy 111 for 3 in their allotted 10 overs and then dismissing the older generation of local crickets for 72 for 6.
Their tally depended a lot on Charlie Malloy (33 not out) and his father Dai (31 not out), who survived a few scary early moments in run out situations, plus an excellent 25 (retired) by Robbie Hood , who then showed his all-round skills by conceding only a single in each of two overs whilst claiming two wickets.
Malloy (junior) grabbed 2-18 and there was also success for Rhys Power (1 for 7) as Jon Williams (20) and Dave Lockyer (11) gave the seniors a solid start and Dan Griffiths showed his experience with 21 before they were finally dismissed well short with a ball to go – but having enjoyed themselves under the captaincy of Ian Milsom, nonetheless!
Burton (97 for 2) lost to Cresselly (99 for 3) by 3 wickets
Cresselly showed the potential from the young players in their squad, who were nursed along by skipper Tom Arthur, Neal Williams and another veteran in Tom Rowlands, beating a Burton side which started the season as potential winners of the section silverware but without a win from two starts.
Burton made an excellent start through Will Ridge (retired on 25) and Matthew Davies, before he was run out for 24, but only Morgan Scale (retired on 27) ever looked settled thereafter against an accurate Cresselly attack where only Tom Rowlands grabbed a wicket.
A final Burton score of 97 for 2 was deemed to be just about par but Cresselly sped on to the attack via Neal Williams (retired on 25) and Griff Jenkins (18), not least because there were 16 wides bowled in Burton’s second over so that they were already on 50 after only three overs!
Tom Rowlands chipped in with 21 and a couple of the side’s younger element fell to unnecessary run outs but with only three wickets down it was Cresselly who eased home with four balls still in hand.
Lawrenny (83 for 3) beat Haverfordwest Thunder (53 for 5) by 30 runs
Lawrenny look likely to be another useful side and the youngest on view as they comfortably beat a Haverfordwest Thunder team which bowled well but clearly lacks experience in batting indoors, with several run outs as they could only muster 53 for 5 from their allotted 10 overs and so fell 30 runs short of Lawrenny, who had also fell a little short after skipper Finley Lewis and Will Allen had got them off to a flying start.
Both started like trains before retiring on 27 but then they lost three wickets as only Oscar Lewis managed double figures, leaving them with a lower tally than they might have expected half-way through their innings as there was some good bowling from S Gaekwad and M Ahmer, with a wicket apiece.
But then there were three run outs for The Thunder as Lawrenny showed why they are well-known as fielders and there was some tight bowling from Oscar Lewis (1 for 12) his big brother Fin (0 for 5) and Will Allen (1 for 5). There was 14 from skipper Mark davues alongside 19, including two sixes, by Ahmaer before they ran out of time with one wicket left.
