Lawrenny youngsters win low-scoring tussle

Lawrenny (82 for 4) beat Neyland B (63 for 5) by 19 runs

Tom Pritchard (Neyland B) - 2 for 12 & 22 not outFinley Lewis (Lawrenny) - 2 for 5 and 12 runsNoah Williams (Lawrenny) - with an unbeaten 16 (two fours)

The evening started off with an unusually low-scoring game between Lawrenny and Neyland B, perhaps attributable to the recently- provided new balls, which swing considerably until they are ‘knocked in’ a bit.

Lawrenny batted first and could only  muster 82 for 4 in their allotted ten overs and could not have been over-confident - but bowled and fielded with their usual enthusiasm to win by 19 runs as Neyland struggled even more and their final tally could have been much lower but for a decent innings by last man Tom Pritchard.

Lawrenny made a decent start via Finley Lewis (12) and Will Allen (21 in only 15 balls) but they lost Oscar Lewis for a duck before Rhys Eynon improved the run rate as he belted two sixes and two fours in his 23 before he was run out after facing only 14 deliveries.

Noah Williams supported with an unbeaten 16 (two fours) and with 10 extras and they felt that their final score at least gave them a good chance as Tom Pritchard (2 for 12) and Iestyn Myles  (1 for 21) were the Neyland wicket-takers.

And that’s just the way it turned out Neyland openers John Tennick (3) and Iestyn Myles (2) were back in the hutch with five runs on the board and although Jamie Smith contributed 13 there were further wickets as Korey Allen (7) and Charlie French (5) came and went before Tom Pritchard scored 22 of his team’s final 24 runs alongside 11 extras overall as they were unable to maintain any momentum.

Finley Lewis led the Lawrenny bowlers with a miserly 2 for 5 and he was supported by Will Allen (1 for 16), Rhys Eynon (1 for 12) and Oscar Lewis (1 for 12) bowled well for the winners.

Seniors A smashed as Cresselly cruise home

Pembs Seniors A (97 for 5) lost to Cresselly (98 for 0) by 6 wickets

Griff Jenkins (Cresselly) - 26 and 2-15Alan Webster - (Pembs Seniors A) 36 not outCresselly showed how much they have improved with an easy win over Pembs Seniors A, where they reduced the opposition to 97 for 5 and then strolled to their target in only 7.4 overs without losing a wicket.

The Old Boys had a bad start as key run-maker Kevin Bowen (3) was run out but Andrew Willliams (24) suffered the same fate and Alan Webster continued his good form in retiring on 25 and eventually returning to reach 36 not out from 24 balls.

Stuart Carpenter added 15, including a trademark straight 6, but then Huw Scriven (5) and Mark Hicks (0) showed why they are where they are in the batting order.

Griff Jenkins claimed 2 for 16 and Tom Arthur (1 for 20) were the pick of the Cresselly bowlers alongside an accurate spell by Tom Rowlands.

Then Noah Williams  (three fours in his 25) and Jenkins (26, including two fours and two sixes) batted really well, building a platform with their attacking play before retiring, and Tom Rowlands belied his status as the senior member of the team with 23 not out (two sixes and six threes) was joined by another talented youngster in Milo Jones (two fours in his 16 not out) in taking Cresselly to a cracking win over the slightly shell-shocked old timers!

Lightning strikes hit Seniors B

Haverfordwest Lightning (128 for 4) beat Pembs Seniors B (88 all out) by 40 runs

Jonathan Williams - (Pembs Seniors B) - 38 not out and 4 for 24Shan Pereira - (Hwest Lightning) - 37 runsThe Pembs Seniors had a collective off-night as their B string faced a big total after Haverfordwest Lightning had recorded a big score of 124 for 4 and then the Seniors struggled, despite the Herculean efforts of Hundleton all-rounder Jonathan ‘Taffy’ Williams.

Williams had an unbeaten 38 (four sixes) and then he grabbed 4 for 24 when the Lightning were batting - to easily earn the performance of the night - and most other games in this section throughout the campaign.

Martin Thomas supported from his No 6 berth with a typically enthusiastic 28 alongside 15 extras so the rest of the team managed seven runs between them!

Sean Atyeo (1 for 14) and Dylan Lee (1 for 17)bowled well  but the key bowler for The Lightning was Jake Merry, who finished with 2 for 2, which meant he had 10 ‘dot balls’ and two singles from his miserly spell!

Earlier in the match, The Lightning had opener Shan Pereira as top scorer with an excellent 37, ably assisted by  Will Phillips so there were boundaries aplenty from this dynamic duo, ably assisted by Jake Merry (12) and Matthew Vaughan (19), with ‘Mr Extras (26) helping to boost an already sizeable score.
