Charlie leads Cresselly to local-derby win

Lawrenny (74 for 4) lost to Cresselly (76 for 2) by 4 wickets

Tom Arthur - led Cresselly with 2 for 7 spellCharlie Arthur - powerful batting for CressellyFireworks were expected in the eagerly-awaited local derby between Lawrenny and Cresselly but it turned into something of a damp squib as the talented young side from Lawrenny could only muster  74 for 4 in their ten overs - and Cresselly cruised past that low score for the loss of only two wickets in only 7.5 overs.

Lawrenny were unable to fire as normal against the accurate Cresselly attack, with only skipper Finley Lewis ever looking settled and scoring the bulk of their runs as he ended up with 36 not out, including their only boundary, whilst last man Alfie Buckle was the only other man in double figures as he contributed 10 not out late on.

Cresselly’s experienced pace man, skipper Tom Arthur, was the pick of their bowlers with 2 for 7 in two overs, ably assisted by Griff Jenkins (1 for 11) Charlie Arthur and Neal Williams.

Willliams also opened the batting and contributed 15 (including one four) before he was run out after co-opener Griff Jenkins had departed earlier to Will Allen (1 for 17) - but then No 3 Charlie Arthur turned the game on its head, as he does so often, by blitzing four boundaries and a straight six to retire on 28 in only 14 balls.

Milo Jones also chipped in with 17 not out, despite tight bowling by Oscar and Tyler Lewis and the game was over, with Cresselly claiming the bragging rights over their opponents from the next village!

Pembs ‘old timers’ quell the Thunder

Haverfordwest Thunder (83 all out) lost to Pembs Seniors A (86 for 5) by one wicket

Leighton O Connor - batted well for the Pembs Seniors AKevin Bowen - superb bowling for the Seniors AA superb spell of bowling by Kevin Bowen, alongside some pretty convincing batting by the Tish veteran, helped Pembs Seniors A beat The Thunder, who opted to bat first and reached 83 all out as they were boosted by a massive 27 extras from their opponents.

Bowen grabbed an impressive 4 for 10 in his two overs, shifting the top four opposing batsmen, all clean bowled as he showed how to bowl wicket to wicket.

Ali Bakhari (23) and Suliman Safi (10) were the only Town Seconds to reach double figures as Alan Webster (1 for 11), Jonathan Pawlett (0 for 14) and Leighton O’Connor (0 for 16) also bowled useful spells, other than their share of extras.

When The Seniors batted, they had Webster run out early before Bowen (24) and Leighton O’Connor (27) formed the backbone of their response and ‘Mr Reliable’ David Haynes chipped in with 16.

They lost Mark Hicks cheaply late on but Pawlett showed how useful he is going to be with the runs that took the Seniors past the winning post despite accurate bowling from Bakari, Safi (1 for 13) and Mir Amher.

Merry leads The Lightning as they easily beat Burton

Burton (94 all out) lost to Haverfordwest Lightning (95 for 1) by 5 wickets

Shan Perreira - more runs for the Lightning keeperJake Merry - top scored for Haverfordwest LightningJake Merry led Haverfordwest Thunder to an easy win over a makeshift Burton side that only had five players and inevitably lacked the spirit that made them such a strong force last season.

Burton’s tally owed much to Harry Owen, with a hard-hitting 30, assisted by Dan John (11) and ‘Mr Extras’ (19) to at least set The Lightning a challenge as Matthew Vaughan, teenager Dylan Lee, Merry and even Ben Field had a bowl.

Field. playing his first game of the season for The Lightning, departed with only seven runs to his name to give Burton the sniff of a chance but it was quickly closed down as Merry (30) and Shan Pereira (29) played at pace and were soon back in the changing room, having reached the retirement score.

Matthew Vaughan and newcomer Rhys Sewell then batted well to take Haverfordwest to their target in only 7.5 overs as they were both not out, and won with plenty in hand.
