Rhead leads Seniors with superb batting

Pembs Seniors A (120 for 4) beat Haverfordwest Lightning (99 for 4) by 21 runs

Huw Scriven - supporting innings of 27 not out for The SeniorsKarl Rhead (superb 62 not out) for Seniors AHaverfordwest Lightning have shown a real improvement of late but when they came up against the Venerable, Intelligent, Athletic Gentlemen Reawakening Awareness of skills amongst the old timers of our county, otherwise known as the Pembs Seniors A team, they were brought back down to earth as former team mate Karl Rhead showed that he has lost none of his potency with the bat as he rattled up 62 not out in three separate visits to the crease.

And in one of those sessions, he was joined by his pal, and also a former ‘Long Neck’ in Huw Scriven, who came in at No 6 and finished with 27 not out as they played a major part in their team’s 28 threes alongside four fours and a six.

They had lost opener Andrew Williams for a duck and Johnny Pawlett was run out for a single, with Alan Webster contributing 13 and Stuart Carpenter 9 before Rhead and Scriven took control to take the ‘Old Timers’ team to a healthy score for The Town first teamers to chase.

On the bowling front, young Dylan Lee was the pick of the bowlers, with 2 for 26, alongside skipper Chris Phillips (1 for 15) and Matthew Vaughan, who bowled well without much luck.

Then Ben Field and Phillips gave The Lightning a good start before the skipper was bowled by Carpenter for 24, with Field (25) retiring soon afterwards - but Dylan Lee kept the scoreboard ticking over with 25 before he retired.

The required run-rate was something of an issue, however, as Scriven stumped Peter Soulsby off Williams for a duck and Matthew Vaughan (9) was run out, perhaps staking a claim for The Vets B next season.

Jack Peters managed a late 5 not out as Carpenter and Williams were the Seniors wicket-takers but with Rhead, Webster and particularly Pawlett bowling tight spells in support as they showed there is still very much life in these old dogs yet!

Lawrenny lose wickets early as Herbie stay top

Lawrenny (65 for 5) lost to Herbrandston (67 for 1) by 5 wickets

Rhys Eynon - again batted well for LawrennyCharlie Malloy - led Herbrandston to easy winHerbrandston called on their experience levels over recent seasons to beat the young team from Lawrenny and remain in control at the top of the division Two table.

Leading the way for Herbie, as he has done for much of the season was Charlie Malloy, who bowled his usual tight two-over spell and then led their batting before retiring with the game won from only 5.1 of their allotted ten overs.

For Lawrenny, there was some big hitting as their score of 65 for 5 included four fours and two sixes but they also failed to score off 28 balls and paid the inevitable price.

They struggled early on as openers Finley Lewis (3) and Tyler Lewis (6) were both run out – and Noah Williams followed without scoring as Malloy took a good return catch, followed by Alfie Buckle (4), who was bowled by talented teenager Dillon Lewis.

Leading the way for Lawrenny was again Rhys Eynon, who scored 31 before being caught by Malloy off Rhys Power, with Oscar Lewis the only other batsman looking comfortable as he scored 19 not out late on, with Lewis (1 for 10) joined by Power (1 for 12) and Malloy (1 for 12) taking the wickets.

Herbie lost no time in chasing down their target, despite the loss of Rhys Power (9) to Taylor Lewis (1 for 11), with Malloy racing to 26 before Atticus Kingston (22 not out) hit the winning runs as they passed 50 in the fourth over and they finished things off seven balls later.

Will wins it for the Oatfield Park Boys

Burton (119 all out) beat Neyland B (66 all out) by 53 runs

John Tennick batted well for NeylandWill Ridge - superb batting for BurtonWill Ridge was the toast of his Burton team mates as he scored a massive 62 before he was run out late on in their final tally of 119 for 6 – and then he joined his brother Dan, Harry Owens and Dan John as Matthew Davies grabbed 2 for 11 in an eventful single over where he was also hit for two fours and a three as Neyland were shot out for 66.

It was a good job that Will Ridge showed such good form after brother Dan (1), Dan John (8) and last man George Traykov (0) came and went quickly, whilst Harry Owens (11) and Davies (13) just about managed double figures alongside24 useful runs from ‘Mr Extras’, which included NINE WIDES in one over from the veteran player of the team!

Neyland’s ace bowler was again Iestyn Miles, with a splendid 3 for 16 haul and the team hit seven boundaries in their reply but were dismissed in seven overs as Joe Campodonic (7), Iestyn Myles (0), Jamie Smith (9) and Korey Arran (0) didn’t stay long.

Three of the Neyland batsmen were run out, including ‘old timer’ John Tennick, who batted really well for his 34 until he was last to depart but Neyland deserve every credit for playing with only five men and never giving up!
