Charlie clinches silverware for Cresselly

Cresselly (114 all out) beat Neyland B (47 all out) by 67 runs

A blistering innings of 69 not out by Charlie Arthur helped Cresselly easily beat Neyland B to gain the 16 points they needed to snatch the silverware out of Herbie grasp, although both will hopefully play in the top echelon next season because they were far and away the best teams in the Second Division and deserve that chance.

Cresselly have an excellent balance in their squad because they have the experience of Tom Rowlands and skipper Tom Arthur alongside some very talented teenagers that include Charlie Arthur, his younger brother Ollie, Griff Jenkins, Ollie Rowlands and Milo Jones.

On this occasion it was Griff Jenkins who took a deserved rest after playing every previous game and also representing the county on Monday evening, with Ollie Rowlands (8) and dad Tom  (7) opening their batting but unable to get their team off to their usual start as they both fell to Sam Laugharne before they had reached 24 in the fourth over.

Leading the Cresselly team on performance in this vital fixture was Charlie Arthur, who started knowing he needed to score 26 runs to prise the individual batting award from Herbie’s Charlie Malloy – and he did that before he retired on that score – but not before a couple of scares as he was dropped twice; one a fairly easy catch.

Ollie Arthur (5) and Milo Jones (0) were both run out before skipper Tom Arthur settled things down a bit  alongside Charlie Arthur, before the skipper departed with 16 to his name, the third to be run out – before Charlie Arthur took the game by the scruff of the neck as the score advanced from 49 at the half way stage to its final resting place 65 runs later, as his incredibly powerful batting saw three sixes and 11 fours in the team’s final tally – but surprisingly with 22 ‘dot balls’, although it must be said that few of them came late on!

It was perhaps understandable if Neyland B felt a little shell-shocked as they lost Iestyn Miles without scoring (bowled by Ollie Rowlands as he had a maiden and finished with 1 for 4), whilst skipper Jamie Smith (7) and Korey Arran (0) fell to to Ollie Arthur as he only conceded four singles from his 12 balls and had two wickets in his fine figures.

Sam Laugharne was run out for 3 and Mason Kerrison also run out when he’s reached 6 – leaving Tom Pritchard (11) as the only player in double figures, before he was caught by Tom Arthur off his namesake Charlie, alongside ‘Mr Extras’ (10) as Neyland were shot out for 47 runs – and Cresselly were champions!

Seniors B make it two in a row after losing their previous eight

Haverfordwest Thunder (111 for3) lost to Pembs Seniors B (112 for 2) by 4 wickets

Haverfordwest Seniors B showed there is still life left in the old dogs as they won their second game in a row by beating Haverfordwest Thunder, after previously losing all their other matches and causing one of their older wags in Ian Milsom  to tell PembrokeshireSport.co.uk
“At our age it is only natural to be slow starters!”

The Thunders’ innings owed much to an excellent innings of 49 not out by skipper Mark Davies, where he just missed out on a deserved half century as he ran out of time at the end of their allotted 10 overs.

Evans lost his opening partner Marc Evans (3), bowled by Ian Milsom as part of a canny 1 for 11 haul by the player known to all as ‘Minky’, but then he found support from the hard-hitting Sachin Gaekwad (23) before Suleiman Safi departed for 7 and it was left to Mo Asher (11 not out) and Farhan Wadiwala (13 not out) as Jason Phillips and Mike Williams also bowled well for the ‘Old Timers’ in limiting their target to chase to 112 runs.

The Seniors B got off to a cracking start to their reply via Martin Thomas (25) and Phillips (24) before the former player’s little legs caused him to be run out and Phillips fell to Marc Evans (1 for 31). But overall, they didn’t bowl well in conceding 25 extras as  Mile Williams (25 not out) and John Ryan ((15 not out) saw them home with two balls to spare in another game played in the best of spirits and a credit to both clubs.

Cresselly collect cup from County Treasurer

Cresselly skipper Tom Arthur received the second division cup from Andrew Scott-Davies and it was wonderful to see Patrick Hannon able to attend to say a few well-chosen words of congratulations to round off the local indoor season – but with the Welsh Finals to be played a week Sunday (2nd February).

Jonathan Williams (Hundleton) won the special trophy for taking most wickets and Charlie Arthur (Cresselly won the memento for most runs, with all the Cresselly squad also receiving an engraved medal as reward for their performances this campaign.
