Men's Indoor Cricket - Division One - Week Two

Comfortable wins for Llanrhian & Neyland A, whilst Pembroke A slammed their B team

Captains star as Neyland ease home

Neyland (109 for 3) beat Hook (96 for 4) by 13 runs

Harry Makepeace reached 37 and took a wicket for HookSean Hannon - tool 2 for 16 for NeylandNeyland A continued their good start to the season as they beat the youthful team from Hook in an absorbing clash where Liam Miller led their batting with an excellent 32 not out but then saw his father Andrew and Uncle Gregg bat just as well for Neyland, showing the form they displayed when they were influential captains for a long time in years gone by.

Neyland lost  Ross Hardy early but then Gregg (29) and Andrew (31 not out) restored the balance before current skipper Sean Hannon (25 not out) and Dai Davies (23 not out pushed on so that although Ashley Watkins went quickly in the late chase for runs a final tally of 109 for 3 in their allotted overs was useful as Harry Makepeace (1 for 16) and Bradley Flood (1 for 28) were the Hook wicket-takers and Owen Phelps also bowled well.

It was a similar story when Hook lost George James early but Liam Miller and Makepeace formed a powerful partnership before both retired and they lost Owen Phelps (stumped by Gregg Miller), Flood and Charlie Holder as the run rate inevitably slowed.

Miller finished up on 32 not out and Makepeace reached 37 before he fell to Sean Hannon in an excellent 2 for 16 spell where he opened the innings with a maiden and only conceded two runs in his second over.

Ross Hardy (1 for 25) and Andrew Miller (1 for 20) also bowled useful three-over stints and although Hook were in with a chanceuntil late on it was Neyland’s greater experience which pulled them through!

Llanrhian cruise home against The Dock

Pembroke Dock (92 all out) lost to Llanrhian (94 for 1) by 5 wickets:

Llion Williams led the Llanrhian bowling attack with an excellent 3 for 11Llanrhian continued their good form of the previous week as they bowled Pembroke Dock out for 92 and then reached their target with a final tally of 94 for 1 in only 8.2 overs as everyone made a contribution, either with bat or ball.

The father and son duo of Nick (13) and Rhys Daley (11)  got The Dock off to a steady start and although George Smith didn’t make his usual impact there were runs for Tom Grimwood (28) and skipper Scott Griffiths ((20), who some pundits think he bats far too low at No 5 because of his ability to accumulate runs quickly. Josh Powell also departed in the inevitable late chase for runs as Llion Williams led the Llanrhian bowling attack with an excellent 3 for 11 alongside Billy Clarke (2 for 21) and Carl Davies (1 for 23).

Rhys Daley claimed the only Dock wicket as he bowled Daf Williams for 13, but then Karl Davies continued his excellent batting for by retiring on 26 alongside skipper Ewan James (25) , allowing Llion Williams (16 not out) and Matthew Bennett (4 not out) to see Llanrhian to an easy win.

Harries back to boost Pembroke A

Pembroke A (125 for 2) beat Pembroke B  (55 for 5) by 70 runs

Jack Harries finished up with 44 not out in only 26 balls for PembrokeJack Harries missed Pembroke A’s opening match because of work commitments on the Valero shut-down but he was back to lead his team to an easy victory over their B team, who were without a couple of key players but were boosted by  the father and teenage son pair of Steve and Ollie Donohue, who showed up well on their indoor league debuts.

Harries finished up with 44 not out in only 26 balls from his two visits to the crease, including six fours and a six, with support from Billy Wood (21), Luke Butler (27) and Archie Hillier-Wood, (both retired), with Sam Davies dismissed for a duck, stumped by Will Davies off Hassan Azziz. Ollie Donohue (1 for 28) and father Steve (0 for 5) also featured with the ball as the A team reached a very challenging 125 for 2 wickets.

But that challenge soon become a mountain to climb as only Andrew Price (11), Steve Donohue (13) and Ollie Donohue (12 not out) managed double figures against Callum Davies (2 for 13), Billy Wood (2 for 9) and Harries (1 for 7) to round off Pembroke A’s dominant performance.
