Four games were played on this busy Wednesday evening and there were win doubles for leaders Pembroke 1sts and second-placed Llanrhian as basement battlers Neyland and Pembroke 2nds continue to gain experience in defeat and clearly enjoy their games nonetheless as both gave their usual 100% effort.







 

Pembroke 1sts 69 for 2 (14) beat Neyland 44 all out (1) by 25 runs

Pembroke Firsts batted first against Neyland and although they might not have been delighted by their finishing tally it proved more than enough as they bowled well and prevented their opponents from ever looking likely to win the game.

Pembroke got off to an excellent start as Bobby Neale scored quickly before falling to Jess Bevan and Jodie Leweis reached the retirement target from the same number of 19 deliveries. But Bevan was joined by Sarah Townley and Jade Major in bowling well to keep the score down.

Skipper Jade Major made a steady start for Neyland but then they lost wickets at key times through  run outs and Lowis Hughes became the fourth dismissal by this medal after batting well to stroke two fours in her top score of 16, leaving Neyland finishing 25 runs short despite her valiant efforts!

Llanrhian 102 for 1 (15) beat Neyland 49 for 4 (1) by 53 runs

Llanrhian gained victory over Neyland by the biggest margin of the evening after batting first and recording the only three-figure score of the evening and then applying real pressure with excellent bowling and fielding.

Carrie Slack and Ceri Jensen raced away from the first over as they scored 54 in the first four overs before both retired and the momentum was maintained as Vicki Grange reached 24 before being run out and Gillian Robinson featured alongside her as they ran really well between the wickets . bowlers as she only conceded three runs in her second over after conceding five threes from her first/threes, alongside three fours and a six as Bethan Chapman was the pick of the Neyland bowlers.

Then Jensen started off with a double-wicket maiden and only  opener Lowis Hughes looked comfortable before she was caught by Robinson off Slack - and it was left to skipper Major to score the huge bulk of the Neyland runs with a spirited 30 not out to show what a useful cricketer she is.

Slack and Jensen (who bowled a maiden over in her miserly spell) were joined by  Robinson, Grange and Chant in keeping Neyland pegged back and Llanrhian showed what a strong team they can be if availability is good!

Pembroke 1sts 49 for 0 (14) beat Pembroke 2nds 48 for 2 (0) by 6 wickets

Pembroke Firsts were also too streetwise for their second string as they bowled well through wicket-takers Leanne Panton, and Anna May alongside Ginny Davies (0 for 5) and Elys Phillips (0 for 4), with Tracey White leading the seconds batting alongside extras being in double figures, but the eventual run rate again on the slow side.

And victory was achieved in style as Bobby Neale sensibly adopted the anchor role at a run a ball to remain unbeaten and Hollie Allen took on the attacking role as she belted 26 not out from only 15 balls, supported  by Ginny Davies as they reached their target in only  5.3 overs.

Llanrhian 78 for 4 (13) beat Pembroke 2nds 41 for 4 (1) by 37 runs

Carrie Slack and Ceri Jensen are clearly a classy pair of opening bats and they put on 37 in quick time but then  Slack was caught by Summer Russant off Megan Roberts before Vicki Grange went cheaply from a run out and Jensen followed when she was bowled by Karen White for  25 in only 11 balls, including a four and two sixes.

Gillian Robinson and Lily Chant kept the scoreboard ticking over as Megan Roberts and Karen Evans were the pick of the Pembroke bowlers.

Only Evans managed double figures for Pembroke as Jensen, Slack and Grange showed their experience with the ball, assisted by some tight field that saw skipper Nirvana Thomas (8) and Sophie Jelley (9) batted sensibly early on but in the final analysis there were too many ‘dot balls’!
