Kilgetty win a cracking final
Ormond Plate Final:
Kilgetty (148 for 4 & 133 for 6) beat Llechryd Youth (96 for 5 & 162 for 5)
Venue: Lawrenny Cricket Club
Umpires: Tony Waldeis & Mervyn John
Scorers: Hazel Poole (Kilgetty) and Ian Carter (Llechryd)
Man of the match adjudicator: Phil Tallett
Man of the Match: Kurtis Marsh
First Innings: Kilgetty 148 for 4
Kurtis Marsh and Jack Parkinson set Kilgetty on the road to a big first innings tally as they both produced their full array of shots that helped Pembrokeshire win the under 15 regional title earlier in the week, with Marsh stroking 14 boundaries in his top score of 78.
Parkinson provided terrific support with an innings of 41 that contained four fours, whilst Jack Tucker provided added impetus at the end of their allotted 20 overs as he struck a big six and two fours as his only scoring shots in reaching 14 not out!
Simon Harrison (3 for 44) and Luke Palmer-Davies were the pick of the Llechryd bowling attack.
First Innings: Llechryd 96 for 5
Llechryd tried hard to get their innings off to a good start and Harrison again caught the eye with 20 (two fours) alongside main run gatherer John Curran (33, including three fours) but they were always behind the required run rate of over seven runs per over against accurate Kilgetty bowling by Liam Cullen (2 for 10), Tom Murphy (1 for 25), Toby Poole (1 for 23) and Parkinson (1 for 17). They ended up on 96 for 5, which meant that Kilgetty took a first innings lead of 52 into the tea interval.
Second Innings: Kilgetty 133 for 6
Kurtis Marsh again led the Kilgetty early batting with 36 runs (two fours) before Tom Murphy contributed five fours and a six in his 41 not out. Jack Tucker showed again his big-hitting prowess with three fours and a six in his 23 and there were 10 runs for Sean Webb as Jack Williams (3 for 23), Luke Palmer-Davies (2 for 13) and Michael Carter (1 for 34) claimed the wickets for Llechryd before Kilgetty set them a huge total of 186 for victory
Second Innings: Llechryd 162 for 5
To be fair to Llechryd they accepted the challenge from the outset despite steady bowling by Toby Poole (1 for 25), Jack Parkinson (1 for 20) and Max Brindley (1 for 8). Carter had three fours in his 38 whilst Howell slammed four boundaries in his 43 to maintain the pressure. Williams also chipped in with 16 and John Curran blasted three big sixes and two fours in his 39 not out. But such a huge target was just outside their range and it was Kilgetty who were worthy winners of an excellent game by 23 runs.
Tony Scourfield, the vice-chairman of Pembroke County Cricket Club, thanked the Lawrenny Cricket Club for staging the game and in particular Malcolm Thomas, groundsman, for all his hard work. He also thanked Elaine and Rob Lewis, who provided the refreshments. The trophies were presented by Jenny Griffiths, (nee Lloyd) and Stephen Lloyd, the Plate having been donated by the family of the late David Lloyd (a former Hon Sec of Pembroke CCC).
