Ken Morris Cup:

Cup holders start well

Simon Williams - 4 for 14 for The TownNarberth (54 all out) (1) lost to Haverfordwest (103 all out) (4) by 49 runs

Haverfordwest Thirds made a good start to their defence of the silverware as they batted first and scored a less-than-average score but still managed to bowl out Narberth cheaply to win by a convincing margin.

John Ebenezer was the key Town batsmen with 31 runs and Paul Jenkins gave support with 18 as Rhodri Gerrard (4 for 37) and Gary Nicholas (2 for 21) were the principal Narberth bowlers.

Old-timers Aled Davies (17) and Rob Nicholas managed double figures when Narberth went in to bat but The Town’s experienced attack was too much for the rest of the batsmen as they slumped to 54 all out, with Simon Williams’ left-arm stuff earning him fine figures of 4 for 14, alongside Matthew Vaughan (2 for 17), Dean Flood (2 for 6) and Jenkins (2 for 12).

Nomads too strong for Hundleton

Geoff Marsh - 17 runs for NomadsHundleton (66 for 7) (0 points) lost to Nomads (107 for 9) (3 points) by 41 runs

Nomads made a winning start to their new season as they made the journey to Hundleton and came away with victory by 41 runs.

Put in to bat, Nomads had Dan Warder (24), Gareth ‘Gizmo’ Morgan (15) and former Kilgetty player Geoff Marsh (17) as the principal contributors to their 107 for 9.

Iori Humphreys claimed 3 for 26 and was 12 not out when Hundleton limped to 66 for 7 against some tight bowling by Morgan (2 for 6), Dickie Read (3 for 23) and Harry Birmingham (2 for 20).

Crymych win last-ball thriller

Cresselly (100 for 9) (0) lost to Crymych (101 for 3 (3) by 7 wickets

Tom Lewis (24 not out) and Alistair Davies (16 not out) were the toast of their Crymych colleagues as they won their first-ever Ken Morris Cup match with a boundary from the last ball of the match.

Cory Hill (37) and club secretary Steff Jenkins (16) were the top scorers for Cresselly as Alistair Davies (3 for 22) and Iona Davies (3 for 31) took wickets for Crymych.

Then Lewis and Alistair Davies batted sensibly despite a 3 for 19 haul from Phil Cole as Crymych were delighted to pouch three points for victory.

Dramatic finish as game ends all square

Carew (142 for 6) (3) tied with Neyland (142 for 4) (3)

Jacob Knox - splendid 81 for CarewPhil Sutton - struck a boundary-laden 65 not out for NeylandThere was a dramatic finish at Carew as Neyland set the home side a very challenging tally to chase and Carew responded well.

It was so neck and neck that with just one delivery to come The Rooks needed three runs but they could only muster two runs – and in the final analysis perhaps a tie was the best result after so much effort by both teams.

Batting first, Neyland reached 142 for 4 and had Phil Sutton as top scorer with a boundary-laden 65 not out alongside 39 from skipper Sam Laugharne as Harry Cook was the pick of the home bowlers with 2 for 18.

Jacob Knox led the Carew response with a splendid 81 runs and Chris Cole chipped in with 21 as Ian Jenkins (2 for 28) and Rhys Beavis (1 for 28) were Neyland’s main wicket-takers
