Haverfordwest’s indoor cricketers are Edgbaston bound!
Haverfordwest Cricket Club’s talented indoor cricket team took another step towards the England and Wales Finals at Lord’s as they comprehensively beat Herefordshire’s champions Burghill and Tillington Crick Club to advance to a match against the Oxfordshire champions at the Edgbaston Indoor School in two weeks’ time.

Pressure applied after a shaky start

The Town maintained their policy of batting first and trying to build a big score to put pressure on their opponents but they received a very early set-back when ace run-gatherer Ben Field was run out by the length of the pitch for a duck after a misjudged call by Simon Holliday, who made amends by hitting six threes and a four in his 28 before he was caught out late on, after previously retiring on 25.

Nigel Delaney maintained his remarkable run of top form as he scored 34 (ten threes) and skipper Dan Potter adding 33 runs (seven threes and two fours) before both were run out on their second spell at the crease, coming back in the late search for runs.

Huw Scriven belted a three, four and six in making a speedy 17 and AJ Revu departed for three but The Town’s tally of 137 all out from their allotted 12 overs was boosted by 22 extras from Burghill & Tillington bowlers.

Visitors collapse to Town’s spin twins

The visitors were hoping for big runs from openers Edward Symonds and Ben George but a superb spell of bowling by AJ Revu, including a double-wicket maiden, got rid of them both.
Then Delaney confirmed his all-round status by having top scorer Owen Morgan caught by Holliday for 21 (five threes) as Burghill & Tillington fell well behind the clock.Haverfordwest’s indoor cricketers are Edgbaston bound!

It was then that Huw Scriven showed his worth behind the wicket as he stumped Barney Morgan (14), Ryan Knight (0) and Sam Williams (0) in quick succession to give Holliday a 2 for 9 analysis, before skipper Potter wrapped things up as the visitors capitulated with four overs still unused.

Both teams were provided with an excellent curry by organiser Wendy Bradshaw and Debbie Cheshire (St Ishmaels) – and now Dan Potter and his men must prepare for the long trip to Edgbaston for the next stage of their indoor adventure!
