Division One Cricket Reports 24th August 2013
Neyland are crowned county champs!
Neyland (96 for 4) beat Narberth (94 all out)
Umpires: Dave Brandon & Peter Perry
Scorers: John Laugharne & Peter Hughes
Neyland maintained their unbeaten run for the season as they celebrated their winning the division one crown when county club chairman Dave Loosmore arrived during the tea interval to present them with the James Morris Memorial Cup to sit alongside the Harrison-Allen Bowl and the DR Morris Cup.
Neyland captain Gregg Miller received the silverware and it was no more than they deserved for their play all season, with a six-wicket success following here against a makeshift Narberth team which could muster only 94 all out but then had Neyland looking a little shaky on 37 for 4 before Nick Koomen and Sean Hannon saw them home with an unbroken stand of 59 runs.
Wayne Howells (29), Simon Cole (18) and Jonathan Spratt (16) were the top Narberth scorers against Patrick Hannon (3 for 11), his twin brother Sean, who handed the keeper’s gloves to Paul Murray and bowled off-spin to pick up 1 for 15 alongside Nick Koomen (2 for 17) and Andrew Miller (3 for 30). Nathan Banner didn’t bowl but took four good catches and almost made it five as he was just unable to clutch a six-hit by Spratt on the long-on boundary.
Ian Hughes showed what a useful asset he is to any team with a 4 for 31 haul as Gary Lloyd’s long-cherished dream of opening wasn’t too successful and only Gregg Miller (13) managed double figures before Koomen hit 40 not out (seven boundaries) and Sean Hannon supported with his undefeated 29 (three fours and a big six).
It was enough to see Neyland home with a little to spare and now they face Lawrenny away on Saturday to try and maintain their proud unbeaten record for the whole season.

Llangwm now require a Houdini act
Whitland (146 for 7) beat Llangwm (145 all out)
Umpires: John Williams & Allan Hansen
Scorers: Janice Webb & Avril Platten
Llangwm’s defeat at Whitland meant that only a Houdini act can save them from relegation because they are so far adrift with just one game left to go.
Their only hope now of avoiding the ‘dreaded drop’ into the second division is for Cresselly Seconds to achieve second place in that table so that only Saundersfoot would be promoted and only Llanrhian would go down as the bottom team in the top echelon.
Llangwm’s problem was again their batting as they batted first and lurched to 105 for 7 before an excellent innings by Joseph Kiff helped them to a respectable 145 all out as he stroked six fours and three sixes before he was caught by Paul Davies off the spin bowling of Johnny Thomas (2 for 21)
Apart from that, only 17 each for Jonathan Twigg and Matthew Kiff, plus 14 by Will Beresford, featured in double figures for Llangwm as Mark Lee applied a vice-like grip with 1 for11 from his 12 overs and the wickets fell to Dan James (3 for 15), David Dunfee (3 for 52) and Scott Newton (1 for 23).
Llangwm’s bowling was better through Chris Inward (3 for 16), Andrew Harries (2 for 41) and young Phil Llewellyn (2 for 42) but Jonathan Thomas completed a good day all-round with 61 not out (five fours and a six), backed up by Matthew Davies (27), Scott Newton (16) and Dai Lee (11) as Whitland eased home by three wickets.

Lewis leads Lawrenny to Racecourse result
Haverfordwest (160 all out) lost to Lawrenny (163 for 7)
Umpires: John Austin & Richard Merriman
Scorers: Jayne Cole & Malcolm Thomas
Steve Lewis called upon his wealth of experience to help Lawrenny to an excellent win at The Racecourse against a Haverfordwest side now struggling to hold on to their second spot in the table under real pressure from Cresselly and Carew.
Lewis claimed 3 for 31 as Haverfordwest were dismissed for 160 in 44 overs, with Rob Williams (1 for 25), Jamie Lewis (4 for 44) and Brad McDermott-Jenkins (2 for 32) as the other successful bowlers, and followed up with top score of 52 as Lawrenny reached their target with an over to spare.
Town skipper Danny Potter led the way as he scored 64 for his team (nine fours and a six), with batting cameos from Ben Field (19), Dan Field (15), Ajay Revu (31) and Avron Roulstone (12).
Lewis rapped five fours and two sixes whilst the father and son duo of Ian Jenkins (28 not out) and Brad McDermott-Jenkins (28) supported - as only ‘spin twins’ Clive Tucker (3 for 35) and Simon Holliday (4 for 23) could get amongst the wickets for Haverfordwest.

Carew’s batting power crushes Tish
Carew (206 for 1) beat St Ishmaels (204 for 8)
Umpires: Trefor Evans & Huw Davies
Scorer: Julie Davies & Pat Williams
Carew again showed their all-round batting power as they comfortably chased down St Ishmaels’ big score of 204 for 8 with four overs and nine wickets to spare.
In doing so they maintained their remarkable surge up the table from being bottom at the half way stage in the campaign to now being in with a chance of the runners-up position.
16 year old Dan Richards (six fours in his 43), Dan Howells (25) and Jonathan Pawlett (26) were the pick of the Tish batting line-up until Dean John arrived at the crease and raised the tempo with two fours and five big sixes in his excellent 60 not out. It helped his side to their final tally against James Hinchliffe (3 for 37), Sean Whitfield (2 for 27), Steff Davies (1 for 43), Tom Davies (1 for 41) and Martin Scourfield (1 for 5).
Ian Sefton was in his most punishing mode for Carew as he hit 81 (seven fours and five huge sixes) before he was stumped by Peter Bradshaw off Andrew Pawlett (1 for 49) – but there was to be no respite for Tish as Rhys Davies (four boundaries in his undefeated 66) and Brian Hall (eight fours in his 52 not out) sent the home side flying past the winning post.

Llanrhian hold on in final over
Cresselly (245 for 8) drew with Llanrhian (175 for 9)
Umpires: Rob Cousins & Dai Morris
Scorer: Dave Richards (Cresselly)
Cresselly were denied second place in the table as the last two Llanrhian batsmen held on in the last four balls for a draw but the visitors have now been relegated to division two.
Simon Cole (57) led the way to a huge score for Cresselly, assisted by skipper Phil Williams (30) and Iwan Izzard (26) before a late surge came from Neilson Cole (32 not out) and Sam Harts (24 not out) against useful bowling by Gareth Reynolds (3 for 37) and Gareth Davies (3 for 59).
Davies also led the batting for Llanrhian with top score of 48 alongside Luke Jones (36) and Paul Lewis (31) but Harts and Izzard completed good all-round performances for Cresselly with respective figures of 3 for 50 and 2 for 14. Steffan Jenkins chipped in with 2 for 36 but Cresselly were unable to winkle out those last pair – and paid the price as they remain in third spot in the table.
