Cricket Wales West (U13s) v Millfield School

Wednesday 7th June - Millfield 13s 162/2 beat Cricket Wales West 13s 161/5

 
Millfield 13s won the toss on a scorching hot day at Millfield Prep School and decided to field first. 
 
Harry Randall and Jake Thorne (24), both of Dafen Welfare CC got the West off to a good start with a 65 run opening partnership. Harry ended up top scoring with 69 runs off his 93 balls faced. Late impetus from Griff Jenkins (21 off 11 balls), Harri (11) & Tomos (14*) saw West Wales to a respectable score of 161 for the loss of 5 wickets. 

After tea Millfield made light work of the target with openers Hughes (41) and Middlehurst (33) departing to Harry and Pembroke's Jaydon Sutherland (1/25). Jones (56*) and McHugh (21*) both scored quickly to see Millfield to their target in only 26 overs. 
 
A great day’s cricket, played on the fantastic facilities at Millfield Prep. Thanks must go to Millfield who were fantastic hosts, providing both teas and a pre match meal to the travelling players and coaches.

Sunday 11th June - Cricket Wales West 13s to Cricket Wales South 13s at Aberdare
1st game - West 13s 78/6 lost to South 13s 79/4 by 6 wickets
 

Cricket Wales West lost the toss away to South Wales and batted first. A combination of tight bowling and good fielding from the South restricted the West under 13s to only 78 for 6 in their 20 overs. Elliot Midgely (18), Harri (14) and a late hard hitting 24 from Carmarthen Wanderers Alffi Harley were the pick of the batters for West Wales. Welsh internationals Joshua-James Crump (2/15) and Michael Rameshkumar (2/7) with the best analysis for the South. 
Cricket Wales South chased down the total but tight bowling from Morgan Britton (1/18), Tom Morgan (1/13), Taylor Lewis (1/8) and Dillon Lewis (0/8) meant it was the 18th over before they reached their target, with Crump hitting 34 not out to see his side home.
 
2nd game - West 13s 148/5 lost to South 13s 172/5 by 24 runs
 
In the second T20 of the day, Cricket Wales West 13s bowled first, and the South put on a running masterclass to set a target of 172 for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Rameshkumar (63) and  Crump (34*) both again contributing with Osian Davies scoring a quick-fire 37. Taylor (2/32), Morgan (1/16), Tom (1/15) and Ifan Jones (1/12) taking the wickets for the West.
 
In reply the West followed their South counterparts by running well between the wickets and putting pressure on the fielding side. Tom Morgan opened the batting and was unlucky to fall just short of his 50, being run out with a direct hit by Oliver Phillips for 47. Jake Thorne (28), Ethan Simmons (17) and Morgan Britton (30*) continued the momentum but it was not enough as the West finished on 148 for 5, 24 runs short of their opponents.

Sunday June 11th - Cricket Wales West Development 13s v Cricket Wales South 13s Development at Aberdare CC

 
It was a cricket-filled afternoon at Aberdare as the development sides for the West and South 13s also played two T20s on a neighbouring pitch. 
 
1st game - West 13s dev 93/9 lost to South 13s dev 100/5 by 7 runs
 
Bowling first, West 13s development searched hard for breakthroughs as Castaldi (33), Thomas (15) and Whyte (13) helped the South to a good total of exactly 100 off their 20 overs. Late wickets from Ollie Grant (2/3), Tommy Hagget (1/16) and Oliver Ryan (13) helped stem the flow and give the West a shout.
 
The South bowling attack kept plugging away taking wickets at regular intervals but vital runs from trialist Caydyn Maguire (21), Harry Thomas (15) & Jaydon Sutherland (12*) helped give the West a great chance going into the last few overs but eventually finishing just 7 runs short. Hudson (2/12) and Wright (2/9) were the pick of the bowlers for the South in helping their team over the line
 

2nd game - West 13s dev 80 all out lost to South 13s dev 82/7 by 3 wickets

 
In the second T20, the West 13s development batted first and got off to a flyer, being on 51 after only 6 overs when they lost their 3rd wicket. A quick flurry of wickets followed leaving the West 80 all out with only Harry Thomas (19) and Dyfan James (15) getting into double figures.
 
The theme continued in the South's chase as wickets tumbled early leaving South 13s development on 28 for 5, with Cresselly's Corin Thornton taking 4 wickets for only 11 runs. A good partnership under the circumstances from Whyte and Morgan got the South over the line having lost 7 wickets. Skipper Cai Jones (1/18) and Tommy Hagget (1/16) also registering wickets for the West alongside a great run out from Dillon Lewis.

Cricket WW Squad (U13s) v Cricket Wales Girls (U15s)
 

Wednesday 14th June - Cricket Wales West 13s vs Cricket Wales Girls 15s at Ynystawe CC.
 
1st game - West 13s 118/6 lost to Wales Girls 15s 119/3 by 7 wickets

 
It was the third match day in a week for the West 13s and Taylor Lewis won the toss, choosing to bat first in the first T20 of the day. Jake Thorne (19) got the West off to a good start with Ifan Jones (18) and Elliot Midgely (14) also contributing. Cai Jones top scored with a hard hitting 31 not out which included 5 boundaries helping the West 13s to 118 in their 20 overs. Megan Rowlands returned the best figures for the Girls 15s, taking 2 for 15. 
 
In reply, Mariam Sahabdeen set about chasing down the West's total in fine style hitting 11 boundaries (including 1 six) on her way to 63 off only 44 balls. Jess Law (24) and Hundleton's Ava Midgely (12*) helped see the girls home in the 18th over. Morgan Britton (1/18), Jaydon Sutherland (1/14) & Taylor Lewis (1/28) with the only wickets to fall. 
 

2nd game - West 13s 87/4 beat Wales Girls 15s 84/8 by 6 wickets 

 
Bowling first in the second T20, West 13s bowling much tighter lines helping to restrict the Welsh Girls to only 84 in their 20 overs. The wickets were shared around the West bowlers with Morgan (2/6), Jaydon (2/15), Charlie (1/6), Dillon (1/2), Cai (1/1) and Taylor (1/12) picking up wickets in an innings where 11 bowlers were used. Good catches from Jake, Charlie and Ethan topped off a great all-round display. Sophie Williams (20), Tess Jackson (15) and Mariam (12) were the Welsh Girls getting into double figures. Mariam with another impressive six. 
 
In reply, the West 13s showed their intent from the off with a mixture of hard hitting and good running between the wickets seeing them home in only the 11th over. Morgan Britton (22*), Jake Thorne (21) and Harri Dawes (17) top scoring for the West 13s. Sophie Williams was the pick of the Girls bowling picking up 2 wickets with Ava Midgely and Tess Jackson getting a wicket a piece.
 
Another great day's cricket between two pretty evenly matched sides at a stunning Ynystawe Cricket Club. A match that the Midgely family will remember as brother and sister (Elliot and Ava) played against each other and at one point had Elliot bowling to his older sister Ava.
