Haverfordwest pull through in second half
Haverfordwest Youth 31 - Crymych Youth 22
An excellent half come-back by Haverfordwest Youth saw them maintain their 100% start to the season against their counterparts from Crymych and a good crowd at Merlins Bridge saw a quality match which provided ample proof of why these teams are two of the top in Pembrokeshire.
Crymych conceded an early lead, were good value for a 15-7 interval lead but The Young Blues had the better of the second half to make it six wins on the trot, with the visitors in third place and showing their quality too.
It was Logun Young who opened the scoring after only three minutes with a quality try converted by Rio Phillips but outside centre Delme Alleyne powered through for two Crymych tries, one converted by scrum half Daf Bryan alongside a well-struck penalty.
As Haverfordwest started their come back they were halted by a try-saving tackle by Ifan Jones but a yellow card soon followed and in that time Haverfordwest added two tries and eventually finished with three in the half via Young again, Rio Phillips (2) and Iori Curtis, two more converted by Phillips for a personal haul of 16 points.
Crymych kept battling away through the likes of second row Scott Williams-Parker, wingers George Griffiths and Ifan Jones, with Deian Jones taking on the captaincy for the first time and switching from centre to outside half. The front row of Geraint Thomas, Sior Phillips and hooker George Nelson also battled hard throughout.
Their efforts were rewarded late on with a try by front-rower Nelson, converted by Daf Bryan – but it was The Blues who got the verdict in a match which was a credit to the players, coaches and supporters of both clubs!
Seagulls stay in second spot
Fishguard & Goodwick Youth 19 - Narberth Youth 13
Fishguard & Goodwick Youth were pushed all the way Narberth Youth and it was a penalty try, awarded late on for a ‘no arms’ tackle that saw them gain the verdict and remain in second place, with their opponents in fifth place after a second defeat in five outings.
Both teams are encouraged by respective coaches Randall Williams and Jason Jennings to play positive, attacking rugby and this was evident from the outset as both teams showed how much they have developed after being novices last campaign – and it was the Young Otters who got off to a flying start as they opened up an eight-point gap with a try by Charlie Reynolds and penalty from Ashton O’Riorden.
Back came the Young Seagulls after the interval when Ryan Thomas powered his way over and Will Robinson converted – but Narberth added a second try by Archie Griffiths to open up a 13-7 gap.
But The Young Seagulls kept plugging away and closed to within a point when busy back rower Taine Williams rounded off a sustained period of pressure but the conversion miss saw them still behind – until that late penalty try decision which raised the ire of the Narberth camp, rounded off a game filled with exciting moments, total commitment and good basic skills!
