Tomlins’ late try takes Aber through

Replacement No 8 Lewis Tomlins and ace kicker Rhodri Jenkins were the toast of their Aberaeron colleagues as their respective last-ditch try and conversion enabled them to deny Haverfordwest a double since The Blues had already won 23-21 at home.

Steve Barnett’s side seemed to be able to hang on with a 13-8 lead to take away their opponents' proud home run which started on the 1st September 2018 with the referee looking at his watch but then Tomkins pounced for a close range score and Jenkins added the extras to ease home by two points.

In-form flanker Aaron James, who claimed a try brace in his previous game, scored an unconverted try for the Mid Wales’ side before the interval as they led 5-3 with Mikey Jones slotted a penalty for the visitors.

The Blues used the wind to good effect after the break to score unconverted tries by Ashley George and Jack Clancy before Jenkins landed a second-half penalty to reduce the deficit to five points.

Then with time running out Tomkins struck wide out and Jenkins did siperbly to land the vital extra points and so moved Aberaeron level on points with their opponents but leap-frogging them in the table since they have played a game fewer!

 

Steff sets Laugharne on road to victory with a try hat-trick

 

Laugharne 52 Cardigan 0

A hat-trick of tries by Steff Davies helped Laugharne gain a comprehensive home win over Cardigan to maintain their thrust for promotion, just five points and three points respectively behind Lampeter Town and St Clears – but with three games in hand on both.

A club spokesman admitted they still had some tough away tussles but they are in good form under coach Gary Price and had this match won by half time as they already led 26-0 – and added four further tries and three conversions after the break.

It was Davies who set The Laugharne wheels in motion with a good try, converted by Matthew Tate, who also added the extra points to other scores by Tim Jameson and Jack Flanagan alongside an unconverted try from Mikey Williams.

As the second half followed a similar pattern Jameson opened The Laugharne account and Davies sliced through for his second and third tries; all three goaled by Davies.

The ubiquitous Mikey Williams rounded off the scoring and although Tate was unable to add the extra points it mattered little because they were good value for victory, with a clean sheet another bonus feature for coach Price.

 

 

Llan gain high-scoring double over The Wasps

 

Llanybydder 32 Llangwm 0

Llanybydder were too strong and experienced for a Llangwm side which battled hard to have 17 players on the long journey but were unable to score any points as a reward for their long trek.

The homesters duly completed a deserved double after previously winning 25-3 at Pill Parks and bouncing back from their 9-32 loss at Haverfordwest in their previous fixture.

They led 15-0 at the interval as Luke Hayman, James Lewis and Shane Morgan all battled hard for The Wasps alongside skipper Gethin Thomas, who was on the bench but came on to catch the eye.

Looking good for Llanybydder were No 8 Aled Evans and centre Rhys Morris, with two tries apiece, with others coming from winger Llyr James and full back Llyr Davies, who also chipped in with one conversion to complete the scoring details.
