Youth Cup Final:

Crymych Youth 22 - Pembroke Dock Youth 0

Referee: Charlie Watts
Assistants: Jason Summers and Sion Edwards

Venue: Lewis Lloyd Ground, Narberth

Man of the match Llyr Davies with Mike FryCrymych' talented youth team completed a terrific treble as they followed up an undefeated league season and Griffiths Cup victory be beating a gritty Pembroke Dock Harlequins' side in a
youth cup final that showed exactly why these two teams finished first and second in the table.

Crymych had both league games by 22-3 and 15-10 but both sides knew that whoever could adapt to the heat and playing in front of an excellent crowd, could take the silverware.

The pitch at the Lewis Lloyd Ground was inevitably rock hard and the Quins suffered an early blow when their captain, Charlie Dearden, sustained a rib injury and after some delay had to leave the field.

Losing skipper Charlie galvanized the Quins

But his loss seemed to galvanise the Quins and despite playing against the breeze were still level after a 0-0 interval scoreline as their pack tore into their opposition and forced them into errors so that Crymych were unable to play the inventive rugby that is their trade mark.

Jack Davies, Euan Owens, Tom Clarkson, Tom Barrass and Matthew Washbourne all threw themselves into the turnovers and produced the platform for Liam Scourfield, Jack Malitte and Harry Owen to link well with halves Geraint Powell and Ben Hathaway to try and keep the Quins pushing forward.

Crymych miss out on scoring chances . . .

Then outside half Jake Jenkins had two long-range penalty attempts for Crymych which fell short of the target whilst the Quins had strong runs by Rhys Bradney, Harry Lawrence and Aaron Cookson which came to naught as the total commitment of both teams failed to produce a single point.

. . . But raise the second-half tempo

Despite playing into the strong breeze, Crymych looked sharper after the oranges as Osian Davies joined the fray and began to join forwards Harri Vaughan, Llyr Evans, Ryan Bean, Matthew Freebury and especially Llyr Davies in putting Crymych on the front foot and only a knock-on prevented a score after quick passing in midfield.

At the other end, Quins' powerhouse winger Blake Hughes put in a terrific run but it was Crymych who finally turned pressure into points when Jenkins and Phillips put Llyr Davies through for an unconverted try.

Tries come for Crymych as pressure pays off

Match officials Jason Summers, Charlie Watts and Sion Edwards Worse was to follow for the Quins as they lost possession in midfield and the combined efforts of Stefan Harries, Lee Griffiths, Sion Evans and Osian Edwards put replacement Gethin Davies over at the posts for a quality try which Jenkins converted.

Second row Ryan Bean was the architect of Crymych’s third try as he made a run any centre would have been proud of before off-loading the scoring pass to put skipper Ifan Phillips in for an unconverted try.

It says a huge amount about the Quins' resolve that they didn't slacken their efforts in the slightest as Jack Malitte, Harry Owen and Liam Scourfield led the way - but Crymych had the final say when their opponents were penalised on the attack by referee Charlie Watts and a Llyr Davies’ break allowed Osian Edwards to gallop fully 60 metres for an unconverted try.
