It looks as if second team rugby is coming back to Pembrokeshire with a bang as ten clubs have combined to compete in the newly-formed Pembrokeshire League, which is to be sponsored by DP Building Supplies of Narberth and Llanboidy.
So Narberth and Whitland will join Cardigan and Aberystwyth, Pembroke, Pembroke Dock, Haverfordwest, Tenby United, Crymych and Newport in the hope that other clubs will also commit themselves to fielding a second team on a regular basis.
The league is to be sponsored by Dorian Phillips of DP Building Supplies, who is best known as a player, coach and administrator with Narberth RFC as well as being the successful coach and former participant with Llanboidy Tug of War Club.
"I really believe in the importance of seconds' rugby, said Dorian, "and my company is pleased to provide sponsorship at this key time."
Richard Merriman, the Junior Union chairman, told us,
"We are delighted with DP Building Supplies' support at this vital time and hope that clubs will return their generosity by making every effort to ensure that every match is played.”
Trefor Evans, the Hon Treasurer, added:
"All the fixtures have been provided for the whole season by Hon Secretary Keith Bryant and we aim to ensure results and scorers are provided for the local press and PembrokeshireSport.co.uk.
"DP Building Supplies' support has meant a great deal and we look forward to a partnership which is mutually beneficial."
