Will Haworth celebrates scoring against Hakin United

Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League – Division 1

Goodwick beat Hakin to take big step closer to title

 Goodwick United 4 – Hakin United 1

Goodwick United claimed an impressive victory over arch rivals Hakin United in front of a decent crowd to go four points clear at the top of the table as they now look odds-on favourites to retain the title well with Sgorio tv cameras filming the high octane action.

Both these top teams came into this important title-seeking clash unbeaten, so something had to give.

Goodwick led 3-1 at half time also they added a further goal midway through the second period to secure the precious points.

Goodwick only have five league games to play before the end of the season, they would have to slip up twice and Hakin win all their remaining games to have a glimmer of hope of lifting the title.

Chris O’Sullivan’s Goodwick outfit broke the deadlock within two minutes as a long throw-in fell to Rhys Dalling, who fed teammate Will Haworth, the latter striking from 18 yards out.

Dalling caused havoc all afternoon as he set up his side's second goal with only 18 minutes on the clock, The striker cut-in and unselfishly played the ball to midfielder Rhys Jones, who struck his effort in to the far right- hand corner.

The hosts continued to press, putting Scott Davies’ team constantly under pressure as they added a superb third on 36 minutes. Fawcett’s poor clearance fell to Dalling, who lobbed the goalkeeper from 30 yards.

Three minutes later the Vikings pulled one back as Ryan Wilson’s corner was met by a well -taken far post header by Jack Britton.

The second period became a far cagier affair as the Goodwick defence consisting of James Dean, Matthew Delaney, Scott Delaney and Sean Pemberton were in fine form, denying the Vikings' threats with the likes of the quality of Ashley Bevan, Alfie Stotter, Mark Jones and Shane Walsh.

The Phoenix Lads added a quality fourth goal as good work down the left by Jonny Horgan before his pinpoint low cross was slid home by the ever-alert Will Haworth and there was no way back for the Vikings.

On the stroke of full time the visitors were reduced to ten men as striker Ashley Bevan was issued a straight red card by referee Stefan Jenkins.
