Haverfordwest Academy is going from strength to strength

Haverfordwest County AFC Football Academy is the only FAW Football Academy operating in Pembrokeshire and participates in a competition set up for Welsh Premier League Clubs.

To comply with the FAW Academy Regulations clubs must satisfy the FAW that players are registered for all mandatory age groups (under 10, under 12, under 14 under 16 and under 19) and that training arrangements and playing facilities meet  minimum FAW standards for the duration of the season.

Regular assessment

To provide the pathway to a higher level of football, players are assessed regularly and their names passed to Premiership scouts and to the FAW Trust Player Identification officer to give them a chance to progress further in the game.

Recent examples of this are Finn Iles, Morgan Thomas and Travis O'Connor and Nicholas Jones.    Also Joseph Griffiths a member of Academy teams for three years is about to start a 6 week trial with Swansea City.    Six members of the Under 19s team have been recommended for the FAW Academy Under 18s squad for a forthcoming match versus the Republic of Ireland.    These are Gwion Howell, Lloyd Hughes, Aiden Rainbow, Mark Davies, Glen Fetini, and Daniel Evans.

Rigid criteria enforced

All Academy coaches have to satisfy a rigid criteria of qualifications and competence with all Head Coaches possessing a minimum of a UEFA B qualification or be on the pathway towards this award.

Haverfordwest County Football Academy in its mission statement is committed to the best practice of football coaching to ensure that local players are given the opportunity to progress to the first team of the main club, and if possessing the necessary potential to go for trials with Swansea City and the Regional Squads of the Football Association of Wales.

Excellent support and close school links

Haverfordwest County Football Academy is grateful for the generous renewed sponsorship from West Wales Properties, and for this season from The Milford Haven Port Authority  and Mr Richard Morgan with proceeds from the Ollie Morgan Memorial Match and continued support from Haverfordwest County AFC, the parent club.

The Academy has always had close links with the Pembrokeshire Schools F.A. who field teams in under 11s, under 13s and under 15s competitions.    Players have always progressed to higher levels of football from this pathway such as Joe Allen (Swansea and Liverpool and captain of Wales), Dylan Rees (Cardiff City) and Liam Cullen (Swansea City Academy and Wales).
