Picture Gordon ThomasJoe Leahy grabbed two well taken second half goals to earn Merlins Bridge a hard fought victory against arch rivals Kilgetty to progress to the West Wales Intermediate Cup semi-finals.

The striker proved the star, but he blotted his copy book  in the 87th minute as he picked up his second yellow of the tie and was duly sent off as the Wizards finished with ten men.

Kilgetty have proved a bit of a bogey side for the Wizards of late before the tie Bridge manager Paul Thomas knew it wasn’t going to be handed to them on a plate.

Alex Thomas gave the Wizards an early lead as he got on the end of a neat Gino Dragone assist, but on the half hour mark the visitors equalised when Lloyd Hughes’ excellent cross was met by a powerful Richard Cope header inside the box.

The second half was nip and tuck before Leahy added his side’s second on the hour mark with Jamie Palmer accredited with the assist.

As the visitors searched for an equaliser the Wizards added a third to kill the tie when Henry Thomas teed-up Leahy as he added a crucial third that has put his team in the hat for the last four of this prestigious competition that they won back in 2019.
