Third Division Cup Final:

Lawrenny 3 - Tenby 2nds 2

Venue: Monkton Lane, Monkton
Referee: Kevin Bowen
Assistants: Colin Newberry and Josh Reed-Harrison

Two goals by Dean Morris helped Lawrenny scoop the section silverware at Monkton Lane as they fended off a determined fight back by Tenby after his side had led 3-0.

Lawrenny played with the strong wind at their backs in the first half and with Conrad Mandiki, Chris Beff, Alan Jenkins and James Buckle looking in control they opened their account with a powerful header by Brad McDermott-Jenkins beating Dan Escott in the Tenby goal.

Morris gets involved

Then Morris got involved as he punished an error at the back by Tenby to find the net – and after good work from Ban James, Phil Cole, Owen James and Matthew Lewis he added the team’s third goal as he latched onto a ball over the top and kept composed to slot the ball past the advancing keeper.

It says much for Tenby’s resolve that they refused to submit and raised their supporters’ hopes with a well-taken goal by Rob Whitfield as he beat Jamie Lewis in the Lawrenny goal.

Action aplenty in the second half

There was plenty of action in the second half and although Tenby enjoyed a territorial advantage they were unable to add any further goals until near the end when Callum Proctor scored a good goal.

But it was too little, too late for Tenby and it was Lawrenny who received the cup from Manderwood Pembrokeshire League chairman Phil Devonald.

The match was well refereed by Kevin Bowen and assistant referee Colin Newberry ended a remarkably long career in the middle by retiring after the match – well done Colin!
