Vikings win to achieve double over the Road

Man of the match Jack Britton scored twice for Hakin UnitedClarbeston Road 0 – Hakin United 5

Hakin United proved far too strong for gallant Clarbeston Road to cope with at Knock Field.

Earlier in the season Scott Davies’ Vikings hammered Clarby 8-0 at the Obs, this time around they bagged five goals without reply to achieve the league double over Matt Fox’s disappointing Road team.

The Road who are currently fourth in the table, but the Vikings who are second, were too hot on the day for the Matt Fox’s side to handle.

The visitors controlled possession and territory as they deservedly led 2-0 at half time. Jake Merry headed home a Ryan Wilson corner which gave his side the lead with only three minutes on the clock.

Eight minutes later the Vikings added a second as man of the match Jack Britton released Shane Walsh down the left, the striker cut inside and he unleashed an unstoppable 20-yard screamer into the top corner of Rhys Mansell’s net.

Six minutes after the interval the visitors grabbed a third, again it stemmed from a Wilson corner which the Road defence failed to deal with which allowed Britton to find the back of the net from six yards.

Britton bagged his second of the match when the dangerous midfielder struck a low 20 yard effort which found the back of the net.

Late in the game substitute Callum Stannett added the fifth as he neatly finished a one-on-one with Mansell to wrap up proceedings.

Goodwick United 8 – Herbrandston 0

Rhys Jones - bagged a hat-trick for league leaders GoodwickChampions Goodwick United as expected proved too strong for rock bottom Herbrandston at Phoenix Park.

The Phoenix Lads are two points clear of arch-rivals Hakin whilst Herbrandston are still anxiously still awaiting their first point of the season.

The hosts led 3-0 at the break and they scored a further five goals after the interval as they controlled matters all over the park.

Kieran Blundell scored in the opening minute before three minutes later Rhys Jones scored from the spot, in the 21st minute Will Haworth’s cross fell perfectly for centre back Sean Pemberton who powerfully headed home the third.

Goals continued to flow in the second half as Rhys Jones scored a peach of a diving header supplied by a sumptuous Luke Hayward cross.

Hayward assisted for the best goal of the game, the fifth, which was lashed home to the top corner by striker Rhys Dalling.

Industrious midfielder Jake Smith made good ground before he delivered a well weighted through ball for Jonny Horgan who neatly tucked the ball past advancing goalkeeper Wolfgang Ackermann.

Pemberton flicked on for Jones to complete his hat-trick with a simple tap-in, then just before the final whistle Pemberton headed home a Horgan corner for his second of the game to complete the scoring.
