This was a game which Hakin United had to win, they didn’t as Chris O’Sullivan’s Goodwick outfit moved two points clear at the summit safe in the knowledge they have four games in hand over second placed Vikings.

“We’ve not won anything yet,” confessed O’Sullivan. “All we can do is take care of our own business, I agree we are in a great position, but there is still a lot of football to be played, and we’ll see where we are come the end of the season.”

O’Sullivan has kept his team’s boots firmly on the ground as far as the title race is concerned, they’re also defending the Senior Cup as they have reached the quarter finals stage, don’t forget they have a tasty West Wales Intermediate Cup semi-final against holders Penlan to look forward to which could possibly be played in the first week of April.

In the first half, it was a cagey with both teams not giving much space to work in, however, both teams created chances that neither took, until on the stroke of half time the hosts finally broke the deadlock as Luke Hayward’s inviting corner was met by Scott Delaney who powered home a far post header.

These substitutions energised the home outfit just when they needed it,  on 76 minutes midfield maestro Rhys Jones, did what he does best, he scored with a stunning 25 yard free kick which flew in the top corner to put his side two up.

This left a huge mountain for Just ‘Skinny’ Harding’s Vikings to climb, in their defence they’d played their part, but on the day they just came up against a better team.

Steven Dockerty replaced Sion O’Sullivan with twelve minutes remaining, two minutes later the hosts bagged a crucial third when Hayward whipped in another inviting corner, as Jones got in front of his man to gleefully header home from close range.

Referee Stefan Jenkins had a good game in the middle. Picture Gordon ThomasThe Vikings made a late substitution as 16 year old Rowan Dixon replaced the outstanding Ben Aldred, but there was no threat of a late fight back by Hakin as the streetwise Goodwick sat firm for the remainder to claim another three points but they also kept a clean sheet as a satisfied O’Sullivan described the afternoon as “another good day at the office”.

Swifts win high scoring affair at Kilgetty

Kilgetty 4 – Monkton Swifts 6

This game was certainly entertaining to say the least, it had ten goals, two sent off, as the Swifts defeated Kilgetty at the Kingsmoor Ground.

Joe Lewis’ Swifts moved up to fourth in the table following his team’s seventh win of the season, whilst Kilgetty are ninth, three points clear of relegation.

Martyn Carroll and skipper Dylan Davies both found the back of the net for the Swifts with barely ten minutes on the clock.

However, Kilgetty bounced back as Steve Thomas and Phil Horsely replied, just before the break Ben Steele added the Swifts’ third only for Lloyd Hughes to quickly level matters at half time.

Two minutes after the interval Steele bagged his side’s fourth to put the Swifts’ noses in front, but back came Kilgetty as Hughes scored his second of the game to square matters at 4-4.

But the Swifts finished strongly as Davies added the fifth, his second of the game, plus Steele bagged his hat-trick to put the Swifts out of sight, just before full time Kilgetty’s Jordan Jones was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Kilgetty: Ben Evans, Richard Tebbutt, Max James, Phil Horsely, Ross Hurst, Jordan Jones, Rhys Hewson, Richard Cope (Captain), Lloyd Hughes, Henry Lawrence, Steve Thomas. Subs: Callum Proctor, Thomas Williams, Josh Bevan.

Monkton Swifts: Stuart James, Thomas Powell, Nathan Ferrier, Noah Davison, Dylan Davies (Captain), Jamie Wilkes, Ben Steele, Jonathan Lee, Cameron Brunton, Martyn Carroll, Josh Dearsley. Subs: Will Abrahams, Rudy Poole.

Referee: John Jenkins.
