Young Seasiders score ten tries against battling Scarlets

Tenby United 66 - Pembroke 15

Tenby United scored tries aplenty in this youth league match at Heywood against a battling Pembroke Youth who were always under pressure but played their part in an entertaining much that was enjoyed by a very big crowd under the Friday evening floodlights.

Seasiders’ coach Mark Heywood gave a chance to impress to some of his fringe players and they showed they are ones to watch for the future as they led 19-10 at the interval, with Scarlets’ coach Rob Hearne quick to sing his players’ fortitude as they tackled well and managed to score three tries in total from Toby Pratt (2) and Lewis Dennison, both outstanding alongside Toby Horwell,  Alex Workman and Callum Edwards.

For Tenby, Madoc Evans maintained firm control as he called the shots from his No 10 berth, and he also landed eight conversions out of ten as his team had tries by Alfie Brown, Callum Cooper, Tom Young, Rhys Parker, Rhodri Osbourne, Ethan Wright, Cemlyn Bolton, Owen Grieve and Kobi Bratcher (2).

This win sees The Seasiders stay in third place whilst The Scarlets hold up the rest at the foot of the table, but already showing signs of improvement and their relatively inexperienced players will benefit and be a strong unit next campaign!

Seagulls play well to win a double header against Aber

Fishguard & Goodwick 27 - Aberystwyth 19

Fishguard & Goodwick were delighted to pick up league points with victory over their counterparts from Aberystwyth but there was double benefit for Randall Williams’ squad because it also gave them entry to the later stages of the Pembrokeshire Youth Cup in this entertaining ‘double header’.

The Seagulls’ success was all the more praiseworthy because they trailed early on by 12 points but battled back to lead 17-12 at the interval as their back row of No 8 Jesse James, Ifan Evans and Taine Williams settled into their excellent ball winning as the front five also did well.

The second half was equally competitive but with Will Thomas and Jac Richards also catching the eye they moved 27-12 ahead before Aber fought back well to gain a consolation third try as their consolation before making the long journey back to Mid Wales.

Aber’s tries were scored by Sean Spollen, Rhys Owen and Michael Whinstance, with two of them converted by Steffan Evans.

For Fishguard & Goodwick tries were claimed by second row Ben Jones, scrum half Will Thomas, winger Sion Perkins and flanker Ifan Evans, with hooker Will Robinson landing two conversions and a penalty to set up a victory that earned a rare smile from coach Williams, after he had a ‘quiet chat’ he had with his players during a short stoppage for injury midway through the first half that seemed to work a treat!

Crymych youngsters ease home against old rivals

Narberth 10 - Crymych 13

Matches between these two quality teams have traditionally been close and this one was no exception as they did battle on the firsts’ pitch at the Lewis Lloyd Ground because The Otters’ first team game had been postponed – and after a real battle it was Crymych who journeyed back over the Preselis with a narrow win.

The Otters’ man of the match was Dewi Thomas, closely followed by James Owens, plus Charlie Reynolds and Sid Castree, who ploughed over for his team’s try, which was converted by Ashton O’Riorden to go with a well-struck penalty.

Crymych  had an early penalty by Daf Bryan and were always looking to run the ball as hooker George Nelson and centre Aled Lewis caught the eye, as did outside half Deian James, who captained the team well, so that they were rewarded with unconverted tries from Delme Alleyne and Josh Thomas alongside that well-struck early three-pointer by Dafydd Bryan which proved the difference and took the visitors into fourth place as they leap-frogged over their opposition with this fourth win from six matches so far.

Unfortunately, Crymych second row Scott Parker-Williams sustained an injury which required a metal plate being inserted into his ankle and rugby lovers across the county will wish this talented teenager a speedy recovery and return to action.
