Cresselly

Umpires: Stu Midgley, Jackie Goodwin & Danny Potter

Venue: Neyland Community Hub

Carew 17 all out (0) lost to Cresselly 18 for 0 (16)

Carew continue to find it hard going against more experienced opponents but we are convinced that their young team will benefit from this years’ play and eventually become a very good team if they stick together.

Near neighbours Cresselly are current champions and they bowled and fielded in their traditionally competitive fashion, with Meg Arthur bowling a triple-wicket maiden that broke the back of the Carew innings, with Lucy Johnston as the other wicket taker.

Lucy Buckle topped the Carew batters but they were shot out in only four overs.

Cresselly then took only 1.3 overs to knock off the runs, including a six from the first ball of the innings.

Carew: Lily Buckle 9 (including a six) - Meg Arthur 3-0, Lucy Johnson 2-5

Cresselly: Zoe Minnett 13* (including that six), Jess Lewis 2*

Haverfordwest

Cresselly 81 for 2 (4) lost to Haverfordwest 83 for 5 (13)

Cresselly and Haverfordwest are old rivals and this tough tussle was no exception as The Town edged home by a single wicket with an over to spare.

Cresselly made an excellent start with openers Meg Arthur and Zoe Minnett before the latter was run out for 22 and Arthur confirmed her reputation as one of the best all-rounders in the division before she retired on 26.

Ava Midgley and Lucy Johnson were not out at the finish but the Cresselly total was perhaps a few less that they might have hoped for after such a solid start.

Pam Asson (21) and Jo Price (14) batted sensibly for Haverfordwest but the mainstay of their innings was an excellent undefeated 40 from Nia Williams against accurate bowling by Meg Arthur (2 for 22) as Ava Midgley and Lucy Johnson also claimed a wicket apiece. Williams certainly kept her composure in a tense end to the game before she steered The Town home with an over to spare.

Cresselly: Meg Arthur 26*, Zoe Minnett 22; Ava Midgley 9*, Lucy Johnson 8*

Haverfordwest: Pam Asson 22,  Nia Williams 40*, Jo Price 14 -  Ava Midgley 1-18, Megan Arthur 2-22, Lucy Johnson 1-16

Hook

Carew 31 for 4 (0) lost to Hook 33 for 0 (14)

Carew again found it hard going against table-topping Hook and their total of 31 for 4 was only achieved with the help of 13 extras - and Hook openers Katie Farr and Jemma Phillips quickly knocked off the runs in three overs.

Nia Simes was the highest Carew scorer with nine runs and all the Hook bowlers bowled well, with Maisie Davies deserving a mention for the fact that she bowled a maiden over to start the game off whilst Freya Hicks conceding only four runs in her opening over for Carew.

Carew: Nia Sims 9 - Maddie Potter 1-13, Tia Rees 1-5, Jemma Phillips 1-2

Hook: Katie Farr 12*, Jemma Phillips 16*

Hook 78 for 4 (15) beat Haverfordwest 76 all out (3)

The most exciting finish came from the final game of the evening as Hook batted first to build a useful score and the result was in doubt until the final over as The Town lost by two runs and their

last wicket fell with only three balls to go!

Reliable openers Katie Farr and Jemma Phillips gave Hook their customary solid start before Sam Rossiter  and Tia Rees kept the scoreboard ticking along despite the efforts of Jo Price (1-12), Awen Prysor (1-25) and Nia Williams (1-20) were The Town wicket takers in bowling their eight overs.

Pam Asson (13), Jo Price (22) and Awen Prysor (20) kept Haverfordwest in contention despite losing wickets at the other end against Maisie Davies, Tia Rees, Sam Rossiter and Jemma Phillips but it was Maddie Potter as the youngest bowler in the Hook attack who held her nerve in the final over, despite conceding a boundary to Prysor from the first ball but then bowling her from the third delivery to set up a Hook victory by two runs!

Hook: Katie Farr 16, Jemma Phillips 26*, Sam Rossiter 10, Tia Rees 21 - Jo Price 1-12, Nia Williams 1 for 20

Haverfordwest: Pam Asson 13, Jo Price 22, Awen Prysor 20 - Maddie Potter 1-20, Maisie Davies 2-10
