County well beaten by powerful Radyr
Ladies’ County Cricket
Radyr ladies (165 all out) beat Pembrokeshire Ladies (105 all out) by 60 runs
Umpires: Rob Bellerby and Allan Hansen
Venue: Hook Cricket Club
Pembrokeshire Ladies entertained their powerful counterparts from Radyr, just outside Cardiff, with a number of players unavailable and seven regulars missing from the team which had easily accounted for Cardiff in their previous match, and although everyone battled hard in the county’s cause, they could have few complaints about their 60-run defeat.
Making a welcome return to county action was Nia Williams and there were debuts for Jo Bradshaw and Madi Neye as reward for their outstanding displays with their clubs – and they will have benefitted from the experience and make other county appearances in the near future.
Scarborough and Payne shine for Radyr
In the final analysis the major difference between the teams was the batting of Charlotte Scarborough and Andrea Payne after Pembrokeshire had made a good start as Emilia Wilson struck early by clean bowling Radyr skipper Rose Evans and Sophie Williams in her excellent opening spell and Ffion Ashman struck at the other end to shift Mariam Sahabden so that the visitors definitely looked a little shaky.
But then Scarborough showed her classy stroke-pay with a boundary-laden 62 and Payne gave the ideal support with 30 runs before Maisy Davies haad the former batter well caught by Ashman and Fflur Davies trapped the latter LBW. There was also 17 for Ella Reed before Fflur Davies struck again as part of her outstanding 3 for 27 haul in cahoots with Lowis Hughes (3 for 18) as no other Radyr batter managed double figures – although their final tally was certainly boosted by 32 extras.
Pembs struggle after steady start
Pembrokeshire needed a strong start in their chase of suck a good total and they got it from Emilia Wilson (22) and Nia Williams (16) but both went close together and the home early batting was unable to build on that start as key run-maker and skipper Sam Rossiter departed for 9 runs as Carys Evans had three maidens in her five-over stint to claim 2 for 7 alongside Ella Reed (4 for 32) as the main strike bowlers.
Most of the county batters were clean bowled in their hurry to score quickly and only Jodie Lewis managed double figures, plus 28 extras taking Pembrokeshire into their three-figure response, but with 9.2 overs left unused.
**This Sunday sees the teams meet again, this time at Haverfordwest, and the Pembrokeshire Squad is as follows:
Sam Rossiter (Capt); Emilia Wilson; Lucy Johnson; Meg Arthur; Finola Scale; Ava Midgley; Maisy Davies; Fflur Davies; Lowis Hughes; Jemma Phillips; Rhiannon Morgan; Chloe Lewis.**
