2025 Ladies Indoor Cricket - Round One

Double wins for Llanrhian and The Dock as ladies’ cricket goes indoors again!

Umpires: Ian Milsom, Jenny Lewis, Johnny Lewis, Luke Butler, Nick Daley
Scorers: Clarrissa Lewis, Wendy Bradshaw, Rhys Daley
Venue: Neyland Community Hub

Llanrhian showed they could be a force to be reckoned with this season as they used their potent mix of very experienced exponents of the indoor game alongside some eager newcomers, whilst Pembroke Dock also started off really well: both clubs beating St Ishmaels and Pembroke, two teams who will undoubtedly do better once they adapt to the needs of scoring quickly in this form of cricket.

Llanrhian (two big wins on the opening evening)

Match One:

Llanrhian (116 for 2) beat St Ishmaels (46 for 2)

Llanrhian started their new campaign with a bang as their top three batters of Carrie Slack, Amanda John and Katy Jenkins showed why they have been included in the West Wales Regional squad with strong innings before retiring. It is to St Ishmaels’ credit that they battled away despite their opponents hurtling to 67 without loss at the half-way mark of their eight overs, with Gillian Robinson batting well in the late thrust for runs as Tei Tallett and Linzi Picton were the Tish wicket-takers. Llanrhian finished up with one six, a five, a four and 23 threes as proof of their excellent running between the wickets.

Lucy Patterson carried her bat for Tish and Linzi Picton chipped in with early runs but accurate bowling by all five of  Llanrhian’s bowlers prevented them from gaining any real momentum  and over half of the balls faced produced no runs.

Llanrhian Innings: Carrie Slack (25*), Amanda John (27*), Katy Jenkins (28*), Gillian Robinson (13*). Tei Tallett (1 for 13), Linzi Picton (1 for 32).

St Ishmaels Innings: Lucy Patterson (18*),  Linzi Picton (14).  Amanda John (0 for 9), Katy Jenkins (0 for 8),  Abbie Ladd (1 for 1).

Match Two:

Llanrhian (106 for 1) beat Pembroke (49 for 3)

Llanrhian made it two wins from two games as Amanda John, Carrie Slack and Katy Jenkins coasted to the retirement level, whilst respectively using up only 14, 10 and 9 deliveries, with Carrie hitting two sixes in the process – and with Karen Evans as the only successful Pembroke bowler.

Jodie Lewis and Bobby Neale got Pembroke off to a solid start before both were run out and there was some miserly bowling for Llanrhian, not least from Amanda John, who bowled the first maiden over of the new season as Carrie Slack and Gillian Robinson  also conceded fewer than double figures t ease their team to another big win!

Llanrhian Batting:  Amanda John (29*), Carrie Slack (26*), Katy Jenkins (26*). Karen Evans (1 for 30), Summer Russant (0 for 16).

Pembroke: Jodie Lewis (11), Bobbie Neale (12).  Amanda John (1 for 5), Carrie Slack (0 for 5), Gillian Robinson (0 for 4).

Pembroke - battled hard but lost twice in round one

Pembroke Dock - Did well to win their two opening matches

Match Three:

Pembroke Dock (89 for 2) beat St Ishmaels (78 for 4)

Pembroke’s most experienced players in Katy Griffiths (27*) and Rachel Sander (23*) led The Dock batting and their total was heavily boosted by 23 extras as Lola Phillips and Linzi Picton were the pick of The Tish bowling attack from their single overs.

Tish made a good start via Linzi Picton and Lola Phillips before Lucy Patterson increased the tempo before reaching the retirement total – and with 46 runs in four overs they looked in with a chance of snatching the verdict as they eventually accumulated two sixes, a five, one four and 13 threes – but also 19 ‘dot balls’ as they fell a tantalising 11 runs short of their opponents’ score!

Pembroke Dock Innings: Katy Griffiths  (27*),  Rachel Sander (23 not out), Extras (23).  Lola Phillips (0 for 4), Tei Tallett (2 for 23).

St Ishmaels: Lola Phillips (20*), Lucy Patterson (29*), Linzi Picton (15). Katy Griffiths (1 for 15).

St Ishmaels - lots of enthusiasm but two defeats to start off

Match Four:

Pembroke Dock (87 for 3) beat Pembroke (43 for 5)

Any match between Pembroke Dock and their neighbours Pembroke in any sport are eagerly anticipated and ensure the ‘bragging rights’ until they meet again, and indoor cricket is no exception – and on this occasion it was The Dock who came out on top in a game that was competitive but always played in the right sporting spirit.

The Dock had a strong start from their opening three of Cheryl Hughes, Katy Griffiths and Sian James and with 15 extras the tally of 87 for 3 in their allotted eight overs was a useful one, despite some accurate bowling from Jodie Lewis and Summer Russant, especially in the latter stage when the later Dock batters were unable to make much headway in the short time left.

Pembroke got off to the worst possible start as openers Jodie Lewis and L@@ Panton both departed without scoring and No 3 Bobby Neale had to make sure she stayed put without being really free to go on the attack.

No-one else was unable to stay long enough to launch a real counter-offensive and only the ‘Extras’ column, managed 10 runs as they were eventually limited to 43 for 5 thanks to the good Dock Bowling of Cheryl Hughes Katy Gibbins, Cheryl Hughes, Rachel Sander and Kirsty Hannon

Pembroke Dock Innings:  Cheryl Hughes (23), Katy Griffiths (14), Sian James (25* in 11 balls), Extras (15). Jodie Lewis (0 for 12).

Pembroke Innings: Bobby Neale (18*) Extras (10). Katy Gibbins (1 for 7), Cheryl Hughes (1 for 13) Rachel Sander (1 for 5), Kirsty Hannon (1 for 4).
