2024 Ladies' Cricket - Week Ten

Division One:

Burton Ladies miss a golden chance

Burton 94 for 9 (4) lost to Cresselly 98 for 0 (18) by 10 wickets

Rhiannon MorganBurton Ladies missed a golden chance to widen the gap over Hook at the top of the table as they went down to a heavy defeat against third-placed Cresselly, who played with a conviction that has been lacking in a few of their earlier fixtures - but were in control almost from the outset in this tussle.

Batting first, the league leaders could only muster a disappointing total as Meg Arthur, Lucy Johnson, Ffion Ashman and Teagan Cartwright bowled miserly spells which were backed up by keen fielding.

Only Rhiannon Morgan managed to reach the retirement marker and she had some support from Bronwen Scale but some of their ‘big guns’ failed to fire and Cresselly were a happy bunch at the half way stage.

Their smiles got even wider as their batters matched their bowlers in terms of commitment, as the outstanding Meg Arthur and Lucy Johnson were joined by Zoe Minnett in comfortably reaching 25 and then retiring without the loss of a single wicket.

It gave Cresselly a deserved 18 points, whilst Burton had to settle for four points but stay ahead of Hook nevertheless, as there are still vital games to play!

Rhiannon Morgan 26no; Bronwen Scale 15
Cresselly Bowling:
Megan Arthur 2-9, Lucy Johnson 3-19, Ffion Ashman 3-25, Teagan Cartwright 1-15

Town return to action with a solid success

Haverfordwest 130 for 2 (16) beat Pembroke 101 for 5 (5) by 29 runs

Bobby NealeNia WilliamsHaverfordwest finally returned to action after some games cancelled because of player unavailability - but they showed something like their real capabilities with this comfortable win over a Pembroke side which continues to improve and can take some satisfaction that they reached three figures against such an experienced opposition.

Sporting all-rounder Jo Price marked her return to action with an undefeated knock, as did Leila Egelstaff and Nia Wiliams, whilst Ellen Keane added late runs with an unbeaten innings that took The Town Ladies to such a big final tally.

Bobbie Neale was Pembroke’s wicket-taker and she celebrated her selection for the county team with her side’s top score before she retired, ably assisted by an undefeated Summer Russant.

Jo PriceJo Price led Haverfordwest’s attack with a 2-12 spell as they eased home by 29 runs and were left to reflect on the fact that so many weeks of inactivity has them pinned to the foot of the table - whilst Pembroke have undoubtedly benefitted from playing 11 games, albeit losing all but one of them but definitely moving in the right direction.

Haverfordwest Batting:
Nia Williams 25no, Jo Price 25no, Leila Egelstaff 25no, Ellen Keane 14no
Pembroke Bowling:
Bobby Neale 1-22,
