2024 Ladies' Cricket - Week Nine
DIVISION TWO:
Pembroke Dock Ladies take Second Division silverware!
Whitland 112 for 3 (6) lost to Pembroke Dock 113 for 3 (17) by 7 wickets
After some very competitive performances during the season the final decision on who would take the silverware came down to the final match at Ible Lane, Pembroke Dock, played host to Whitland, who knew they could take the silverware if they could beat the front-runners - and started off in positive mode as they won the toss and elected to bat first.
And they had positive performances from Fflur Davies and Amy Morgan, who both retired after doing really well - and they had support from the unbeaten Mari Kirk and Millie Lee in taking their total to a healthy 112 for 3, despite The Dock having useful bowling by Martha Bari and skipper Katie Griffiths.
Griffiths has certainly led by example this season and she chipped in with 14 as Carys Lloyd reached the retirement target and they finished victors by seven wickets as Sian James and Katie Gibbins were not out in reaching their silverware target.
The trophy was presented by Nick Evans, who is deservedly the long-serving president of ladies’ cricket, as well as fulfilling the same role with the fellers - and it was Katie Griffiths who was delighted to receive the cup in the knowledge that it also meant that they had been promoted to the top echelon as reward for all their hard work with Nick Daley and. Peter Kingdom, who were helping on the evening, as usual.

Carew 99 for 5 (5) lost to Kilgetty 100 for 2 (17) by 8 wickets
Carew were asked to bat first by Kilgetty at Kingsmoor and they fella run short of three figures despite useful batting by Kirsty Waygood and Holly Griffiths, with Chloe Bland as a key bowler for the homesters.
Chloe also excelled with the bat before retiring, as did Ceri Jones, so that although Jess Griffiths bowled well for the Lady Rooks it was Kilgetty who claimed their second success of the season to leap-frog over their eager opponents in the section table.
Carew Batting: Kirsty Waygood 23, Holly Griffiths 22
Kilgetty Batting: Chloe Bland 25* Ceri Jones 25*

Madi Neye was again the top Seasiders’ batter before retiring and found support from Jen Thomas and Michaela Parker as the effervescent Linzi Picton and Rachel McGuire were the pick of the Tish bowlers.
Then Talia Ennis and especially Anya Benyan bowled good lines for Saundersfoot but Jo Bradshaw again was the top Tish run-maker and Charl Couston led their support so that they took the honours, to the evident delight of coach Johnny ‘Bap’ Lewis!

DIVISION ONE:
Cresselly 73 all out (7) lost to Hook 77 for 9 (18) by 1 wicket
Hook gained revenge for their defeat by Cresselly in the Clive Huxley Memorial Cup by edging home against the same opposition in a real thriller - and a slow-scoring game where Hook skipper Sam Rossiter saw them home to victory by one wicket thanks to her 33 not out.
Sam had already done one important job by winning the toss and asking the opposition to bat first and then saw her bowlers Emilia Wilson (an amazing 5 wickets for only for 2 runs), Tia Rees (2 for 7) and Maddie Potter (1 for 6) ensure that only Zoe Minnett and Ava Midgley managed double figures.
Hook found it equally tough going, however as only Maisy Davies stayed long for her 22 as Ava (2 for15) Ffion Ashman (2 for 18) and Meg Arthur (1 for 15) bowled well and really applied pressure - but Hook still needed only seven runs from seven overs.
But after taking four Hook batters’ wickets quickly to get a sniff of victory Cresselly were unable to get the key wicket of the highly experienced Sam Rossiter and her excellent undefeated knock was the key performance in seeing Hook keep their eye on the title and Cresselly might have to settle for third place in the table.
Cresselly Batting: Zoe Minnett 17, Ava Midgley 12;
Hook Bowling: Emilia Wilson 5-2, Tia Rees 2-7, Maddie Potter 1-6
Hook Batting: Sam Rossiter 33*, Maisy Davies 22
Cresselly Bowling: Ava Midgley 2-15, Ffion Ashman 2-18, Meg Arthur 1-15
Umpires: Rob Lewis & Ryan Lewis
Scorer: Matt Lewis

Burton 156 for 1 (20) beat Pembroke 47 all out (2) by 109 runs
Burton’s talented batters created a new Ladies’ League record as FIVE of them reached the number of runs required to retire against Pembroke at Oatfield Park and then their fielded well and bowled good lines against gritty opposition who are still gaining experience at this level but gave 100% as usual.
The mother and daughter duo of Finola and Elaine Scale both continued their good form alongside Lilly Thomas, Becca Barton and Caroline Cooper as Hollie Allen claimed the only wicket for Pembroke (well bowled Holly!).
Then Lilly showed what an excellent all-rounder she has become with a splendid 4-11 haul as Jodie Lewis topped the Pembroke batting as this win puts Burton three points clear at the top of the table but having played a game more than old rivals Hook.
Burton Batting: Finola Scale 25*. Elaine Scale 25*, Lilly Thomas 26*, Becca Barton 28*, Caroline Cooper 26*
Burton Bowling: Lilly Thomas 4-11
Pembroke Bowling: Hollie Allen 1-25
