Vikings reach West Wales Cup semis at expense of frustrated Dafen Welfare

Hakin United deservedly overcame Dafen Welfare to reach the last four of the coveted West Wales Intermediate Cup.
 
This excellent victory against the West Wales Premier outfit has set-up a mouth-watering semi-final against another West Wales Premier outfit St Josephs, the team that comfortably beat Goodwick United in the quarter final stage.
 
Manager Scott Davies’ Vikings team took the lead through a goal scored by captain Ryan Wilson before Elliott Jones equalised for the hosts. Liam Parks quickly restored the visitors’ lead as the Vikings narrowly led 2-1 at the interval. Midway through the second period midfielder Jack Britton grabbed a crucial third, then deep in stoppage time the hosts had Scott Evans sent off for a second yellow card offence.
 
Shane Walsh set-up Wilson in the 18th minute as the skipper buried the opener from the edge of the 18 yard box.
 
Twenty minutes later Dafen squared matters as Elliott Jones struck with a direct 20 yard free kick.
 
Jack Britton headered home a crucial third goal for The VikingsA minute later the visitors regained the lead as Britton played a well weighted through ball to Parks who raced between the home centre backs before the striker unleashed an unstoppable 18 yard shot which flew in the top corner.
 
After half time the tie ebbed and flowed before Britton struck a crucial third goal with a close range header following a goalmouth scramble.
 
The hosts got frustrated as the Vikings kept their cool for the remainder of the game, but deep in stoppage time Evans saw red and there was no way back for Dafen Welfare as the Vikings celebrated a superb cup victory on the road.
