Haverfordwest Seconds beat St Ishmaels with just two balls in hand after Kieran O’Connor had hit Kevin Bowen for three runs to take the spoils.

The match was played in a smashing spirit and the teams enjoyed a second ‘friendly knockabout’ after Cresselly phoned up to say they were sadly unable to field a team, where Tish did far better in a high-scoring tussle which doesn’t count in the league set-up but at least they made sure the rest of the afternoon wasn’t wasted!

Tish take too much time to build an innings

Tish had regular outdoor openers Peter Bradshaw and Dan Howells starting their innings but Howells was well caught by young Town keeper Jack Scriven off the bowling of another teenager in Archie Thomas, who also held on to a rasping catch to help Kieran O’Connor shift Bradshaw for 12.

Andrew Palmer belted a four and a six in his 17 runs before Scriven again joined forces with Simon Williams – and a good return catch by O’Connor helped remove James Hall for five runs.

But Kevin Bowen played with a vigour that belied his age to retire on 2 (including two threes, two fours and a six). Andy Pawlett belted a quick 8 not out and with only seven extras bowled by Haverfordwest the final Tish tally of 77 for 4 was perhaps less than they might have hoped for.

Town B come back from a poor start

Haverfordwest suffered a very early set-back when Archie Thomas was run out without facing a ball but Kieran O’Brien batted well until he retired on 25, forming a useful alliance with Kern Cunningham, who struck 22 before he was bowled by James Hall, who added a second scalp when he had Jack Scriven caught by Andrew Pawlett.

As the pressure built up, Simon Williams was also shifted cheaply by Kevin Bowen but Tish conceded ten more extras than their opponents, so that O’Connor had to rejoin Warren Evans, who didn’t have to face a single ball, as O’Connor tickled three runs to edge The Town Seconds home!
