Talented Sporting Youngsters Feature - Ollie Arthur

‘Talented Sporting Youngsters’ Feature:

Number Three – Ollie Arthur

Ollie ArthurToday on PembrokeshireSport.co.uk we tell you all about a talented young cricketer from Cresselly who is maintaining the family tradition as a talented all-rounder who has already tasted first-team cricket at such a very young age. This is what Ollie told us . . .

Name: Ollie Arthur
Age 14

Club:
Cresselly Cricket Club

County Cricket Details: I played up to the age of 12 but opted out of the new Cricket Wales set up as I didn’t like or enjoy it.

People who helped me there: Steven Lewis and Jamie Phelps in my county youth days.

For Cresselly: Richard Jenkins, Tommy Arthur, my brother Charlie and my dad Julian, who has played for Cresselly for many years and is still scoring runs.

Ollie Arthur and big brother CharlieFavourite batting position and top scores?
Anywhere in the top three as I play regularly for the seconds, where my top score is 87 this season against Llechryd. I have also played Sunday games for the first team and when Cresselly under 15s played a strong Pontarddulais side in the Welsh Cup I scored 54 not out, finishing with a six before I had to retire.

Best bowling figures?
I took 6 for 19 for the third team in the season just finished and my dad says he thinks they are the best figures in the club this season but I’m not sure about that.

Favourite local players?
Charlie Arthur, my older brother, who is already a first team regular and is a very good all-rounder , and  Matthew Morgan because he is such a stylish batsman when he’s home from college.

Ollie Arthur and best pal Iori ThomasFavourite top sportsman?
Ben Stokes, who is a great all-rounder and scored 182 against New Zealand the other week..

Enjoys?
Going to the gym at Tenby Leisure Centre at least three times a week with my mate Iori Thomas, who also plays cricket for Cresselly.  I also enjoy playing rugby as a hooker for Tenby, after playing centre midfield in football for Lawrenny before but they had to disband because they didn’t have enough players. But I have to say that playing cricket is still the best sport of all.

Ambition?
A future in sports or cricket coaching is what I would really like but there’s time to think about that in a couple of years’ time.
