Steph realises dream as Jodie and John are crowned champions
Riding your first winner is one of the most special moments in a jockey’s career and the opening race of the day at the Pembrokeshire Point to Point, the Hunt Members Race, saw 16 year old Stephanie Rogers realise that dream.

A graduate from the Pony Racing programme which is proving invaluable for young riders to gain experience, Stephanie always had the aptly named ‘Teenage Kicks’ at the head of the field of five runners, and two fences from home the partnership opened up a lead from which ‘Casco Bay’ and Richard Patrick could not close on, the official winning distance being three lengths.

Owned by Steph’s mother Hilary, ‘Teenage Kicks’ was having his ninth run of the season and despite parting company a couple of the times the partnership has had some very consistent placing’s under the watchful eye of trainer Wyn Morris, who is also Steph’s employer.

Well done Jodie and John

The afternoon of racing brought the West Wales Area Point to Point season to a close and with it the Area Championship titles, the majority of them going to the county of Pembrokeshire, with Jodie Hughes, from Stepaside, as champion lady rider and John Mathias, from Manorbier, as champion gentleman rider.
