Haverfordwest County 4 – Swansea University 3

Skipper Sean Pemberton fired home a last-gasp winner to secure Haverfordwest County a thrilling Welsh Cup victory against Welsh League Division Two side Swansea University at the Conygar Bridge Meadow.

A brace by Ben Fawcett and one apiece from Lee Trundle and Pemberton secured a narrow win, and Levi Houapeu scored two and Declan McAde also scored for the visitors, and the latter had a first half penalty brilliantly saved by Steve Hall.

There were five goals scored in a highly entertaining first half, and the hosts led 2-0 after 19 minutes. Fawcett latched onto a superb 40 yard Trundle ball to open the scoring with a good volley past Luke Wallace.

'Magic Daps' Trundle added the second, the striker receiing a ball from Leon Luby, turned quickly, brushed off his marker and slotted past Wallace.

The visitors pulled one back in the 35th minute when McAde sweetly struck a volley, and a minute later and the visitors equalised as Houapeu made no mistake from close range.

The Bluebirds restored the lead in the 42nd minute when Trundle assisted for Fawcett to bag a deserved second.

Brilliant penalty save

Just before the break  the visitors were awarded a penalty - but Bluebirds keeper Hall made amends for the offence as he pulled off a brilliant save to deny McAde an equaliser so the homesters led 3-2 at the interval.

The second period was a cagey affair with both teams not so accurate in front of goal.

However, the visitors equalised in the 82nd minute as Houapeu, who had earlier used his terrific pace but failed on both occasions to beat Hall, made amends as he pounced from inside the box.

As this exhilarating tie looked to be heading for extra time the Bluebirds grabbed a late winner to break Swansea University hearts.

Substitute Jack Wilson latched onto to Luby’s long throw and the teenager’s cross was met by Pemberton who struck a powerful first time left foot drive into the back of the net.
Danny Williams failed to beat Wallace with a clear-cut one on one after a terrible defensive error from the students and right at the death Trundle missed a sitter with the goal at his mercy.
