Who will win the Senior Cup?
PembrokeshireSport.co.uk has asked a mixture of managers, players and coaches who they think will win the forthcoming Senior Cup Final? This top match of the season in the county is between current cup holders Goodwick United and three-time successive title winners Hakin United, and it is really a mouth-watering prospect! The tipsters have gone 7-6 in Goodwick United’s favour, but finals are one-off affairs, so on the day anything can and will happen. Good luck to both teams - let’s hope that they serve up a cracker for the fans!
Leigh Galdo (Herbrandston Manager):
Goodwick United 4 Hakin United 2
Hakin United have some serious firepower up top, but Goodwick United look a much more balanced team from 1 to 14. The Bridge Meadow plays much like the pitch at Phoenix Park, which should be an advantage to Goodwick.
Chris Lloyd (Pennar Robins Manager):
Goodwick United 3 Hakin United 1
Both teams are excellent going forward, but having played both teams this season I think Goodwick United have the more balanced team, and defensively they are very strong, so that’s why my head is saying Goodwick United to win.
Bernie Armstrong (Former cup final winner as player and manager):
Goodwick United 2 Hakin United 1
I just hope that this cup final lives up to its billing. At this moment in time they are definitely the best teams in the county, so it’s fitting that they play each other on the centre stage at the Bridge Meadow. I hope it’s a cracker, but I think Goodwick United will win, but only just.
Matthew Price (West Dragons Manager):
Goodwick United 1 Hakin United 3
I have to go with Hakin United, especially after the heavy defeat that they inflicted on West Dragons in our recent league encounter.
Shaun Whitfield (Carew Player):
Goodwick United 1 Hakin United 2
I can see it being a tight game between two very strong teams who both have an array of attacking talent at their disposal. Vikings’ striker Nicky Woodrow will have to be watched closely, if Goodwick United fail to keep him quiet then they are in for a tough afternoon.
Dene Hurlow (Tenby Press Officer):
Goodwick United 1 Hakin United 1 (After extra time – Goodwick United to win on penalties)
I believe Goodwick United have got the right blend of players this season and will achieve the treble.
Scott Richards (Angle Defender):
Goodwick United 1 Hakin United 2
This has all the ingredients of being a classic final. I have this gut feeling that Hakin United will win it in the extra time period.
Luke Hayward (Johnston Player Manager):
Goodwick United 3 Hakin United 2
They’re both very good teams, but this year I think I’ll go for Goodwick United as they have a strong set of players who I can see them winning in extra time.
Phil Jones (Merlins Bridge Coach):
Goodwick United 3 Hakin United 2
Both teams are the most consistent this season and it has the ingredients for a classic final. A repeat of their earlier West Wales Cup tie might be too much to ask. As a former Goodwick player I can’t go against them, my heart says a narrow win, maybe after extra time.
Marc Hughes (Narberth Midfielder):
Goodwick United 2 Hakin United 3
I think this will be a close final that could go either way. But my head tells me that the Vikings have more goals in them if everyone is fit.
Craig Weston (St Clears Manager):
Goodwick United 2 Hakin United 3
Both teams are full of talent which makes for a cracking final. If Nicky Woodrow and Ashley Bevan both perform on the big stage then I think that Hakin United will lift the cup.
Andrew Burgoyne (Milford United Coach):
Goodwick United 0 Hakin United 2
After we lost against Goodwick United in the semi-finals, my heart says Goodwick, but my head is telling me Hakin United, I think they will be too strong.
Ian Baker (Neyland Manager):
Goodwick United 3 Hakin United 2
I think it will be a close affair. The Vikings’ forward line is very strong, having played both teams recently, Goodwick are more solid defensively so I think they will win it by the odd goal.
