Seasiders too strong on the night for young Vikings
Under 13s:
West Wales Cup Semi-Finals:
Hakin United 1 - Tenby 4
Referee: Neill Crawshaw
Assistants: Angus Scourfield & Keith McNiffe
It is inevitably a huge moment for under 13 teams to play a West Wales Cup semi-final under the floodlights and open spaces of The Bridge Meadow Stadium but the talented young players of Hakin United and Tenby produced a very competitive match where the good coaching in both clubs was very much in evidence.
The Young Vikings might have started as slight underdogs but they competed exceptionally well in the first quarter as central defenders Leighton Hughes and skipper Joseph Hewitt looked strong whilst midfielders Anthony Marshallsay and Finley Turner were always involved in all they did.
Hakin grab first goal but Tenby go ahead by half time
And in the 17th minute Hakin took the lead following a good build involving Alfie Candler, Ollie Mayhew and Kian Jones up so that a well-timed volley from Tyler Thompson found the net.
But this set-back saw The Young Seasiders raise the tempo of their game as Madoc Evans, Sam Hughes and George Morgan caught the eye – and they drew level with a well-taken goal from Ryan Robertson just three minutes later.
Tenby made it 2-1 in their favour at the interval when Rudi Thomas slotted a 27
th minute goal and as space inevitably opened up in the second half they moved two goals in front when George McDonald beat Will Gent in the Hakin goal in the 40
th minute.
Five minutes later Tenby set the seal on success with a fourth goal as sub Evan Christen netted to set the seal on a deserved victory to earn a final against Cwm Wanderers at Stebonheath Park, Llanelli – but Hakin United also deserve congratulations for their part in a semi-final that was a credit to junior football in Pembrokeshire.
