Davies, and his assistant Anthony Mayhew, have told the committee that they no longer feel they have the time to run the Vikings’ first team.

Last season may have felt like a disappointing campaign as the Vikings firsts didn’t win any trophies but they certainly did take some impressive scalps in the Welsh Cup and FA Trophy competitions; they finished runners up in the Pembrokeshire Football League First Division and also reached the West Wales Intermediate Cup Final after a 19-year absence.

Davies told Pembrokeshire Sport: “I enjoyed every second of my time in charge; the constant support I received from the committee, supporters, players, and my family made my job easy.

Asked what were the highlights of his tenure, he added: “There were so many highlights it is hard to break it down into one, but obviously the Welsh Cup run, beating Afan Lido and Taffs Well, both tier-two teams, and to have the 'Sgorio' tv cameras for round five at the Obs for the Holywell Town tie was pretty special for everyone at Hakin.

“I also think the charity walk and run that Leigh Broome and I organised for Mental Health, turned out to be one of the most incredible things I have seen during covid.”

Davies fondly remembers his time with the Vikings:
“I managed for seven seasons, starting out with the seconds, and winning Division Two was an outstanding achievement for all involved, which has now been brilliantly matched by the boys this season.

“Not to mention covid being thrown in halfway through that seven years and the strange times we all lived in. It was not easy for coaches in that period to get football back on track and as apriority in people’s lives. So full credit to everyone who stayed involved.

“Hakin is in a great place as a club, with a 10-15 strong committee full of people who love the club and seeing it progress and do well is their main priority. It was great to be  a part of it and Anthony and I plan to stay on board and help out in any way possible.”

The news coming from the Obs is that former striker Justin ‘Skinny’ Harding has agreed to take over the reins as manager with help from Mark Jones and Alex Greenish.

Davies added: “I wish them all the best as they are three committed club men.”
