Patten marks return by scoring crucial winner for Bluebirds against Archers

Kyle Patten marked his return from injury as the substitute touched in a late second half winner to secure three welcome points for Haverfordwest County against Cardiff Met University under floodlights at the Bridge Meadow Stadium.
 
Tony Pennock’s men have importantly picked up four points in three days as they currently sit seventh in the league table, this hard-earned victory is a morale boost for the squad plus as an added bonus they also kept a clean sheet.
 
The home outfit played in a smart black and white kit which they wore for the first time this season.
 
Haverfordwest County made one change from the starting line-up who drew at against Flint Town United last Saturday, Iori Humphries took the place of Jazz Richards also there wass a welcome return from injury for Kyle Patten  on the bench.

The Bluebirds had the better of the first period as it remained goalless at the break, and late in the second period the pressure finally paid off.
 
Early on Archers’ keeper Alex Lang pushed away by-line cross from Jack Wilson, Jordan Davies had a goal bound shot blocked inside the area; midway through the half Elliot Scotcher played an inviting ball to Wilson, but his shot wass parried by Lang and Jordan Davies’ shot from the rebound was blocked.
 
Matthew Chubb made good ground down the wing, he cut inside and struck a powerful shot which Zac Jones palmed away.
 
Shortly after the break, Pennock made his first change as he brought on Ryan George who replaced Ben Fawcett, midway through the second period Kyle Patten came on for teenager Iori Humphreys in defence.
 
In the 72nd minute the Bluebirds should have taken the lead as Jordan Davies headed over the crossbar.

Minutes later Rhys Abbruzzese was fouled outside the box, and from the resultant free kick struck in the box by Veale,  Patten contested and it was the substitute who got the vital scoring touch.
 
Pennock made a third change as Ivan Watkins came on for 16-year-old Harri John, after the youngster put in another impressive display.
 
A free kick in the box caused problems for the Archers’ defence which included former Bluebird Alaric Jones as Wilson fired his first time shot wide.
 
It didn’t matter as the Bluebirds survived a few close calls in their boxand closed out the game to pick up a thoroughly deserved win much to the delight and relief of the fans.
