Owen suffers nasty indoor cricket injury
Cricket lovers around the county will be saddened to hear that Pembroke Dock’s talented young cricketer Owen Hughes sustained a nasty leg injury in his team’s match against Llanrhian and will be out of action for some time.
Owen was just 17 the day before his injury and had bowled really well against one of the best teams in the local indoor league, taking the wicket of Daf Williams, who has accumulated most runs so far in this year’s competition.
Daf had reached 6 when Owen’s accuracy proved his downfall, the ball pitching on off stump and neatly removed the bail as Williams groped unsuccessfully for it.
Owen repeated the dose in his second over by clean bowling the big hitting Tom Clarke in identical fashion when he’d scored 21, to confirm his potential, and team mates Nick Daley and Peter Kingdom telling us what a good prospect he is.
He was sadly injured when he went in to bat, however, looking for a quick single but twisting his knee and falling to the ground.
Owen was taken to hospital and it is believed that he might have broken his fibula below the knee and perhaps has damaged ligaments – and he is in Withybush Hospital and will need an operation to repair the damage.
It is a shame for someone of his age but we at PembrokeshireSport.co.uk are confident that he will be back as soon as possible and we wish him the best of luck because he is a modest and likeable young man who is very popular with his team mates at Imble Lane.
