Bowls and Swimming benefit from Swimming Pool Trust

Haverfordwest Swimming Pool Trust, a registered charity before England lifted the World Cup in 1966, has supported seven individuals and two clubs associated to Haverfordwest in their recent quarterly meeting, with donations being made to develop sporting success in and around the County Town of over £20,000.

The Pool’s original Trust Deed defined the charity’s beneficiaries as the inhabitants of the County Town of Haverfordwest.

The Trustees were recently invited to Haverfordwest Bowls Club, themselves established in 1934, who were a beneficiary of the Trust to enhance the upkeep and maintenance of the Bowling Green, at the Parade in Haverfordwest.

Chairman, Lance Murphy, in welcoming the Trustees to the club’s Finals Weekend highlighted, “The Trustees have done sterling work in supporting sport in Haverfordwest.

"The difference the support has made to the Club is evident here today with the standard of the green itself’ coupled with the hard work of our own volunteer groundsmen, Paul Jenkins and Dai John.

"On behalf of our club, please accept our grateful thanks,” before he candidly reminded all present he wasn’t one of the original club members back in 1934!”

Trust Secretary Jonathan Twigg thanked the Bowls Club Chairman “for your kind words and for the invitation to attend the Club’s Finals weekend.

Sport has always played a major role in this town and will continue to do so; the Trust has a mantra to ensure the advancement of Health and Wellbeing and the skills and knowledge that the Trustees bring to the table is both wide and varied, ensuring the townspeople benefit from the legacy of the Swimming Pool, which was originally sited off Dew Street.

Age or gender are not barriers to an application.”  He also highlighted, “the Trustees were equally delighted to support the efforts of the swimming club to purchase electronic training equipment to develop their sport, which is now based at the Leisure Centre on St. Thomas Green, built after the original swimming pool was closed in 2008.”

Applications for the next meeting will be welcomed by the Trustees and interested persons should email haverfordwestswimmingpooltrust@gmail.com for a link to the online application form.
