Milford Haven School is through to semi finals
Welsh Schools’ Under 15s Football Cup Quarter Final:
Milford Haven School 3 - Ysgol Dwr-y-Felin, Neath 1
Referee: Mr Mike Algieri
Venue: Ysgol Gellyswick 3G pitch
Huge congratulations to Milford Haven Comprehensive School who are through to their age group semi-finals after a victory over opponents renowned for their schools’ football but coming up against a local team full of commitment and high skill levels.
A very tense first half saw Milford Haven conceding an early goal, and then playing the better football but unable to equalise, despite having created several chances. It seemed just a matter of time before they scored but the half time whistle came with them still a goal behind.
Milford Haven beginning to get on top
As the second half started, Milford Haven again played the better quality football and created a few chances through Mason Dolling, Bobby Jenkins and Jack Jenkins, but the Dwr-y-Felin keeper was quite safe in goal.
As the three-quarter mark approached the work-rate of Ashley Watkins, George Wheeler and Scott Paddison was outstanding in midfield and the goal came through Ashley Watkins, with a nice finish to make it 1-1.
Then a shot from Scott Paddison, and a blunder from their keeper, gifted the home team their second goal and the lead for the first time in what was always going to be a tight tussle.
Great defence – and the vital final score
The defence of skipper Owen Rickard, Harry Young, Lucas Aldred and Jayden Barrett defended tirelessly throughout and Dwr-y-Felin could just not break through as they were effortlessly marshalled by Owen Rickard.
Corey Riley was outstanding in goal, playing up a year and a last minute change due to Aidan Tansey not being able to play. Frazier Stoddart also marked his debut with a real contribution in his first game and Milford Haven made the game safe with a 3rd goal, this time from Bobby Jenkins.
