Dock too strong for struggling Pembroke B
Pembroke Dock (157 for 1) beat Pembroke B (56 all out) by 101 runs
Pembroke Dock showed their batting strength against a struggling Pembroke B team as their first four batsmen played ‘tip & run’ to perfection before retiring, as they ultimately built a massive score of 157 for 1 before bowling and fielding tightly to restrict Pembroke B to 56 all out and defeat by a huge margin of 101 runs.
Rhys Daley (25) put on 50 with Tom Grimwood (32) by the fourth over and when they retired the momentum was maintained by Adam Phillips (26) and the new ‘slimmed down’ version of Nick Daley (28) as they kept up with the high run rate, with Daley (senior) like a greyhound between the wickets now that he’s five stone lighter - well done old buddie!
New captain George Smith almost joined them with 24 but fell to a cracking catch by teenager Harry Pennines as 21 from ‘Mr Extras’ enhanced an already mammoth target for Pembroke B to chase.
But they were soon in deep trouble as Penniket, Toby Bradley-Watson, Ceri Brace, Will Davies and Ollie Donohoe all failed to reach double figures against Grimwood (2 for 10), Rhys Daley (2 for 14) Nick Daley (1 for 8) and George Smith (1 for 13) - and it was left to last man Shaun Donohoe to give at least a semblance of a respectable score as he belted two sixes and a four in his 25 before he was neatly stumped off the penultimate delivery of their final over.
Neyland A survive early shocks
Neyland (80 for 5) beat Pembroke A (56 all out) by 24 runs
A shock result seemed on the cards as runaway league leaders Neyland were reduced to 53 for 5 against Pembroke A but somehow still managed to win by 29 runs in an unusually low scoring tussle from two of the best batting sides in the top echelon.
Jack John was very much the hero of the hour as he was left to bat alone after skipper Sean Hannon had top scored with 27 but fell to a careless slash and was caught off the side wall as punishment for his error - with Dai Davies, Andrew and Gregg Miller, plus Lewis Page, all failing to make their usual impact.
John’s unbeaten 22 took him 36 balls but it was a great solo performance as he cleverly used up the last four overs and with 19 extras at least gave the league leaders a sniff of a chance, despite good bowling by Callum and Sam Davies, Billy Wood and especially skipper Jack Harries, who returned excellent figures of 4 for 10 in three overs.
And they grabbed that sniff with both hands as excellent fielding by Lewis Page, Andrew Miller, Jack John, plus Gregg Miller doing an excellent job as stand-in keeper, saw them put pressure on the top Pembroke run-getters.
Skipper Harries survived a third-ball catch off the wall but was unable to make Neyland pay as he departed for three runs, with Sam, Callum and Jack Davies all joining him in single figures against Andrew Miller (2 for 8), Dai Davies (1 for 9), John (1 for 14) and Hannon, who all bowled well.
Typical of the pressure applied by Neyland was the way Luke Butler (14) was dismissed after batting well early on with Billy Wood (11), going for a sharp single but a Hannon throw was superbly deflected on the stumps by Andrew Miller as the fielding highlight of the evening!
So Neyland A continue their undefeated run despite the absence of so many former ‘star’ players, but still somehow managing to maintain the winning habit acquired over so many years!
Hook youngsters comfortably beat Llanrhian
Hook (106 all out) beat Llanrhian (79 all out) by 27 runs
With Neyland A so dominant is seems that the main race in this year’s top echelon could be for the runners-up spot and so the tussle between Hook and Llanrhian assumed great importance in the final game of another absorbing evening of indoor cricket.
Hook batted first and their big hitters Liam Miller and skipper Aled Phelps were their main performers with the bat and Brad Flood (the veteran in the team at 30), grabbed four wickets his allotted three overs.
Llanrhian also had individual performances from skipper Iwan James (one of the most consistent run-makers this campaign) and Karl Davies as their main strike bowler, with another four-wicket spell.
Between them Miller and skipper Davies blitzed seven fours and four sixes, with Miller ending up on 51 before he was bowled by Davies alongside Harry Makepeace (4), Owen Phelps (6), Flood (1) and Charlie Holder (5), with skipper Phelps chipping in with 34 before Llion Williams took a return catch as part of his 1 for 15 spell in cahoots with Davies (4 for 31) and Daf Williams (1 for 18).
It was a similar story when Llanrhian batted as they lost Russell Watkins without scoring and Daf Williams (7) also came and went before Karl Davies and Llion Williams just about managed double figures, as did ‘Mr Extras, whilst Billy Clarke disappeared for a duck so that only James managed to score a boundary and there were 32 ‘dot balls ‘almost half of their overs’ allocation, without a single run scored!
That was down to the tight bowling from skipper Phelps (2 for 14), his younger brother Owen (0 for 7), Harry Makepeace, Charlie Holder and, of course, Bradley Flood, (4 for 18).
