Ladies' Rugby - Scarlets smash their way to cup semis

Pembroke and Tundu share a post-match photo shoot

Pembroke Panthers 52 – Tondu Titans 7

The Panthers were at home to Tondu Titans RFC on Sunday 19/1/25 in the quarter final of the WRU Women’s Nation Bowl and played superbly to reach a half century of points whilst limiting The Titans to a solitary converted try.

The Panthers were on the hunt to make the semi-finals  for the second consecutive season and the home side’s pack and backs asserted control from the outset, by putting together some flowing moves that saw them dominate territory and possession throughout the first half.

Tenacious, determined scrummaging, some elusive running to build multi-phase attacks and some very adept handling brought them four excellent tries, three converted by skipper Chloe Jones and a half time lead at 26-0.

After the break the visitors galvanized themselves and were a more assertive presence for the duration of the second half, but dogged home defence and too many handling mistakes at critical moments prevented them from scoring for the bulk of the half. Their never say die attitude was, however, rewarded with a very late converted try by Zara White.

The home side used the second half to empty their bench and continued to put together some excellent phases of play, which was rewarded with four more tries, three of which were converted by Jones to leave them worthy winners by 52-7.

The coaches Dale Humphrey and Nigel Cole were proud of the team work the entire squad showed, as they commented that the hard work being put in at training was starting to show.

Captain Chloe Jones commented “It is lovely to get the win, especially in such an important fixture. The team have all season worked hard for one another on and off the pitch. We are just taking each match as it comes and approach each game as important as the last and the next, but above all we go out there for one another and hope that doing our best is enough.”

Pembroke now have a break with their next league fixture being the 9th March 2025 when Tondu Titans return for the league home fixture. Updates on semi-final details and any other rearranged games will be found on the Panthers’ social media channels on Instagram and Facebook.
