Junior Rugby U11s, U12s and U13s Finals held on 30th April 2023

Junior Finals’ Day – Part Two:

In the following three finals we feature the teams growing into the game and showing the way that all clubs, coaches and players must now follow clear guidelines on how carefully the skills and laws of the game are taught on a developing basis.

As a result, matches are competitive for the first time and with new skills developed alongside physical growth it is easy to see the progress made at under 11, 12 and 13!

These matters are vital because every care must be taken with players physical and mental well-being – as well as a genuine love of the game through following such guideless at all times.

Under 11s Final:

Neyland U11s

Pembroke 5 - Neyland 15

This is the first time that these eager young players will have appeared in a final where they play the game out to a conclusion – and on this occasion it was Neyland who came out on top as they scored three excellent tries to just one from the Young Scarlets.

The commitment was shown by both squads on a game played at pace but also with high skill levels for such young participants and good defensive qualities were also shown as coaching, especially with regard to safe tackling, was always to the fore.

Rhys White scored Pembroke’s only try but The All Blacks’ juniors responded with tries from Mesake Catakai, skipper Karter Williams and Braidy Greggain as reward for their hard work – but The Young Scarlets showed great promise and will surely come again in future finals!

Under 12s Final:

Fishguard U12s

Fishguard & Goodwick 12 - Tenby United 0

Both Tenby United and Fishguard showed how much players can add to their skills and awareness of the game as the under 12 teams showed their commitment with some excellent defensive, especially from the Young Seagulls as they kept their line intact with some quality tackling that was a tribute to their coaches.

The Young Seasiders also played well, especially in attack where they had their chances but just missed out, perhaps through some over-eagerness at key moments, alongside the good covering by an eager Fishguard team.

The Young Seagulls took their chances well to two claim tries from their outstanding player, Ollie Sinnott, one converted by Dewi George, and in the final analysis just about deserved their victory – but Tenby also made a significant contribution to an excellent encounter.

Under 13s Final:

Aber U13s

Aberystwyth 27 - Haverfordwest 5

Aberystwyth Under 13s made the long journey down Cardigan Bay worthwhile as they fended off the strong challenge of a useful Haverfordwest squad that played some good rugby but eventually Aber came out on top as they won by five tries to one.

The Young Blues had their chances but good defence by Aber restricted them to a try from Lucas Albery despite a lot of promising stuff – and Aber showed them how to take their chances with some clinical finishing.

Shane Evans, Iolo James, Iolo Ifan, Riley and Dan Jones were the Aber try scorers and Iago Evans landed one conversion to make a long trek south worthwhile for the Aberystwyth youngsters.

Aberystwyth: Shane Evans; Thomas Grover; Tyler Erasmus; Austin Healy; Llion Jones; Elis Hockenhull; Osian Merry; Iolo James; Iago Evans; Dan Jones; Iolo Ifan; Dhayne Licerio; James Powell; Lewis Ashton; Hedd Jenkins; Ioan Edwards; Jack Beddows; Gruff Morgan; Rileigh Jones; Dafi Williams.
