Hook beat Burton to go joint top with them

Umpires: Will Ridge, Nick Daley, Toby Asson, Tom Arthur, Dan Potter.
Scorers: Lauren Davies, Emma Hicks, Joan Lewis.

There were some exciting matches at the Neyland Community Hub as Burton edged home against Pembroke Dock by two runs and in the top of the table clash Hook beat previously undefeated Cresselly to join them at the top of the table – and with Haverfordwest beating Carew to sit in third spot, just two points behind. Carew lost both their matches but again gave 100% and deserve credit for their battling qualities.

Match One:

Burton

Burton 82 for 1(13) beat Pembroke Dock 80 for 2 (3) by 2 runs

The first match of the evening produced an exciting finish before The Dock Ladies fell just short with wickets in hand as Burton called upon their wealth of experience to hold on as their opponents needed four runs off the final delivery but could only muster a single run.

Burton: Bronwen Scale 25no, Rebecca Barton 26no, Extras 16 – Katie Griffiths 1-11, Lana Jones 0-10
Pembroke Dock:  Sian James 25no, Katie Griffiths 26no, Rachel Sander 18 – Olivia James 0-9.

Match Two:

Haverfordwest 31 for 1 (14) beat Carew 30 for 5 (0) by 5 wickets

Carew found it hard going from the outset against Haverfordwest’s strong bowling attack as they could of 30 for 5 in their allotted eight overs, with half of them coming from extras, mainly wides, as Nia Simes (6) was their top scorer against another excellent bowling spell from Awen Prysor as the spearhead of the Haverfordwest strike force. It took just 2.5 overs for The Town Ladies to reach their target as Freya Hicks took the solitary Carew wicket in that short time.

Haverfordwest: Lyn Ward 17no, Pam Asson 6no – Freya Hicks 1-12, Nia Simes 0-6
Carew: Nia Simes 6 – Awen Prysor 3-7, Jo Price 1-6, Kylee Vaughan 1-6, Nia Williams 0-7

Match Three:

Carew

Burton 37 for 2 (15) beat Carew 35 all out (1) by 4 wickets

Carew again batted first and found runs difficult to come by as only No 4 batter Nia Simes did well to reach 16, with Holly Griffiths (6) as their next top scorer before they were dismissed in 7.1 overs against Rhiannon Morgan, Bronwen Scale, Olivia James and Becca Barton all taking wickets.

It took Burton 4.5 overs to reach their target after an early scare where they lost regular run makers Olivia James and Bronwen Scale but Lucy Luke guided them home.

Carew: Nia Simes 16 - Rhiannon Morgan 1-10, Oliva James 2-6, Bronwen Scale 2-11, Becca Barton 1-11
Burton: Lucy Luke 14no, Becca Barton 6no – Freya Hicks 1-5, Samara Powell 1-12

Match Four:

Hook

Hook 83 for 2 (14) beat Cresselly 80 for 2 (3) by 4 wickets

This eagerly-awaited clash between these front runners certainly didn’t disappoint as Cresselly reached a respectable tally from their eight overs but a determined batting effort from Hook saw them to victory as they had four wickets and two balls to spare!

Zoe Minnett and Meg Arthur gave Cresselly an ideal start before the former batter was bowled by Maisy Davies but they lost wickets in the inevitable late chase for runs and might have added a four more but were held back by good Hook fielding.

All four of the Hook batters made useful contributions as Sam Rossiter steered them home alongside Tia Rees despite some good bowling by Ffion Ashman and Sophia Cole.

Cresselly: Meg Arthur 16, Zoe Minnett 30no, Lucy Johnson 11no – Maisy Davies 1-16, Tia Rees 1-27, Sam Rossiter 0-11
Hook:  Katie Farr 19, Jemma Phillips 17, Sam Rossiter 26no, Tia Rees 13no – Sophia Cole 1-18, Meg Arthur 0-18.
