Latest Youth Rugby Round Up

Blues bag another big win

Fishguard 20 - Haverfordwest 34

Haverfordwest Youth made it four wins in as many league matches with this excellent away win at The Moors against their counterparts from Fishguard & Goodwick, after playing with the wind to establish a 17-10 interval lead and then defying all the Young Seagulls’ attempts to claw their way back in and entertaining and hard-fought tussle between the teams in first and second places.

With skipper Devin Williams leading by example the Young Blues scored six tries, from winger Harry Lawrence and outside half Rio Phillips, plus two apiece by powerful No 8 Zach Shaw and inside centre Max Fenn, two of them converted by Phillips.

Fishguard had good all-round performances from No 8 Ifan Evans, flankers Taine Williams and Will Robinson, centre Dom Sinnett and second row Adrian Wilkes, who powered over for a deserved hat-trick of tries,  alongside a good try by centre Ryan Burton, none of them converted.

Young Otters reach half century against gritty Young Scarlets

Pembroke 5 - Narberth 50

Narberth Youth made it three wins from four starts to establish their place in the top four against last season’s champions Pembroke Youth, who have the bulk of that squad having moved up and already had a taste of senior rugby, whilst coach Jason Jennings now has a squad with more experience after a tough start last campaign

But the Young Otters are now beginning to benefit from their hard work under Jennings and were already 31-5 ahead at the break as the home side had a consolation try by Rio Stratford, with another near miss when the ball was held up over the Otters’ line.

Winger Sam Morris grabbed two tries and there were others from co-winger Morgan Bethell, the entire back row of  James Owen, Callum Gorman and Callum White, centre Owen Woof and especially Gethin Llewellyn, who rounded off his team’s best move.

The Young Scarlets really tried hard and coach Robbie Hearne and his boys can take comfort from the fact that their time will come, as long as they stick together.

Young Seasiders win well against Young Mid Walians

Tenby United 39 - Aberystwyth 13

Tenby United played well to win their second league match in front of an enthusiastic crowd to inflict a third successive defeat on Aberystwyth as they claimed six tries to their opponents’ one.

In a fast and open game, Aber’s sole try came from Sean Spollen, which was converted by Steffan Jones to go with two penalties – but the home side were that little better at ball retention and it paid dividends as they built solid platforms from which tries came from Iwan Duffy (2), Owen Grieve, Lewis Rossiter, Tom Young and Rhys Palmer, with three conversions by Alfie Pryor to go with a well-struck penalty.
