Narberth snatch a last-gasp win and Tenby run in eight tries at Pill Parks

Only two matchers were played on Saturday, with Narberth gaining revenge for an earlier defeat at Fishguard, in the final moments, with this dramatic winner as centre Owen Woof  was their try-scoring hero – and Tenby United eased to a 44-0 success against a Llangwm side which deserves every credit for their part in a game watched by a good crowd, who must have felt that the final score didn’t really reflect the part played by the Young Wasps.

Narberth 14 Fishguard & Goodwick 12

Narberth gained revenge for their narrow defeat at The Moors ,when Fishguard & Good won as the result of a penalty try awarded in the dying seconds, only on this occasion The Young Otters had the final word as they retained possession well to gain a foothold near the Young Seagulls line, using their pack to inch its way forward until they spread it wide to both sides of the pitch before Woof spotted the gap and went through it.

There was a real intensity to the match as both teams have improved immeasurably since they met at the start of the campaign, which is a tribute to the hard work of coaches Jason Jennings (Narberth) and Randall Williams (Fishguard) – and a hard-fought battle up front ended up just about level

For Fishguard, their back row of Taine Williams Jesse Jones and Ifan Evans caught the eye, with Evans scoring one of their two tries as he took a quick tap penalty from close range – the other coming earlier from centre Dom Sinnett as a break up the middle saw him brush off a couple of tacklers and speed to the posts for full back Danny Voyce to add the easy extra points.

Narberth had taken the lead with a penalty from centre Ashton O’Riorden as Sid Castree, Charlie Reynolds, Noah Jenkins, Jake Leavitt and man of the match Ca Gorman worked hard to lay the platform – but Fishguard fought back via centre Dom Sinnott as Voyce landed the conversion., only for Narberth to go in at half time with a 9-7 lead as O’Riorden was on target with two more penalties.

The second half was equally tight as Ellis Phillips and Iwan Evans tried to influence matters for Narberth, supported by Dan Cooker, Sam Morris, and Dewi Jones but The Young Seagulls regained the incitive through skipper Ifan Evans’ try, which put his team ahead.

They did show a little lack of being streetwise, however, as they twice were awarded penalties after good work by scrum half Will Thomas and centre Ryan Burton and but took quick tap and goes with coach Williams calling them to hoof the ball into the corner – but their enterprise came to nothing as The Young Otters had that last chance where their man of the match Cal Gorman helped set up the chance – and Woof did the rest as he ploughed over the line!

Llangwm 0 Tenby United 44

Tenby United Youth’s eight-try win against Llangwm saw them leap-frog Fishguard, who lost at Narberth, and into second spot in the table behind unbeaten Haverfordwest.

The Young Seasiders were already 25-0 in front at half way and continued to rule the roost after the interval via the power of their forwards and pace behind which allowed fly half Alfie Prior to call the shots in quite poor conditions on an inevitably wet pitch.

Flanker Owen Grieve was chosen as man of the match for Tenby as he continues to catch the eye on the open side of a strong back row and scored two tries, as did pacy winger Keanu Williams, with the other tries coming from hooker Jack Webb,  centre Kobi Bratcher, scrum half Louie Treadaway and full back Rhys Parke, with No 10 Prior landing two conversions.

The Young Wasps never stopped battling hard as a whole squad effort that will have pleased coach John Rowles, with skipper Kieran Sinclair and Joe Johns leading the way up front and Liam Miller tackling well at the back.
